Although magic and rare enemy corpses can be used to create Spectres, the Spectres will be the normal version of that monster type, lacking any additional modifiers they may have had. However, intrinsic mods for the normal monsters will be maintained except for some minion-raising abilities of their own. For example, Necromancers will curse enemies but not raise minions. Some monsters like Reanimators and Spectral Tacticians can summon their own minions (Zombies and Raging Spirits, respectively), but their minion's stats will only be affected by Minion-specific support gems and stats that affect allies, like Aura. Loss Protection: Spectres persist after logout or disconnection. If lose your spectres in a town or hideout such as by removing the gem or missing attribute requirements, corpses of your spectres will spawn at the entrance of the next hostile area you enter. Only the owner of the spectres can use Raise Spectre on these corpses.

Affliction league
The Breaker of Oaths in the Affliction league sells corpse items that create a monster corpse on the ground. Many of these monsters cannot be found as raisable enemies and rare corpses come with abilities that buff the player or party. However, these monsters are not added to the Desecrate corpse pool after being raised. Should you lose them, you must buy their corpses again to reuse them.

Finding Spectres in Maps
Some guidance on Spectre corpse availability when raising Spectres in maps:
Maps have a default sub-set of mob-types that will spawn, usually related to the tileset.
Mobs like Stygian Revenants (Undead) and Undying Evangelists (Humanoid) will have better chance to be spawned with a map mod that changes the allowed mob-types.
Taking existing Spectres into a map adds them to the list of spawnable corpses via Desecrate if allowed by the map, even if there are no mobs of that type present. This seems to be related to the default sub-set above. E.g. taking Flame Sentinels into a white Temple will allow their corpses to be spawned by Desecrate. Note that mods changing the spawn-type such as Bipedal will prevent Flame Sentinel corpses from spawning. Also note that some instances will be more difficult than others to obtain the matching corpses, probably because the actual monster variety in the map tileset is higher. Sometimes this takes dozens of casts, in which case using traps and mines to multiply the number of corpses can be useful.
Some monsters that are normally only found in Tier 17 maps have a chance to appear in maps with the Invasive Adversaries Atlas passive allocated, allowing you to find them much earlier into mapping.
"Spectre bank"
Players who may wish to save certain harder-to-obtain spectres to switch between, or have a backup in case their spectres die and are unable to create their corpse again, may want to create a "spectre bank". A spectre bank is a low-level character that can be used to add your spectre's corpses to the DesecrateDesecrateSpell, AoE, Duration, Chaos Level: (1-20) Cost: (11-26) Mana Cast Time: 0.60 secRequires Level 16Desecrates the ground, summoning corpses and dealing chaos damage to all enemies in the area. When still in the same instance at the same time, use you second account to raise the desired corpse as a Spectre.
You can now retrieved the banked spectre by again open 2 clients of the game, using the second account to Desecrate the desired corpse to allow the first account to raise them as Spectre.
Note that each character has a cap on how many spectre corpse types they can store. This is the same as the number of spectres that they can have at the same time.

The level of monster created by the Raise Spectre Skill has been lowered, though remains unchanged at gem level 1. It now creates a level 70 monster at gem level 20 (previously 72), and level 76 monster at gem level 25 (previously 77).
Raise Spectre's most recent monster types are now saved to your character and may be Desecrated. The size of this list is capped by your Spectre limit.
Lower the life of Spectre versions of monsters that have very high life totals. Their life is being brought down to match Kitava's Herald monsters. This will affect their corpse when created with Desecrate.
Reverted an unintended change where corpses of Spectre monsters were made to be just as likely as other corpses from Desecrate and other corpse generating skills. Spectre-based corpses are once again twice as likely as corpses from the area.
Raised spectres now have a spectre level of 28 at gem level 1 (from 31), up to level of 72 at gem level 20 (from 76).
The Raised Spectre gem now grants Minions 105 additional accuracy rating at gem level 1 (from 150), up to 776 additional accuracy rating at gem level 20 (from 1109).
Your Spectres and Auras are now saved when you log out or are disconnected.
Spectres no longer have their level reduced to the level of the area they are in. Instead, the level of a Spectre is now based on the lowest of either the level of the monster they were raised from, or the maximum level allowed by the skill gem used. This is now indicated on the skill gem.
