A tier 17 map, also known as a purple map, T17 or uber map, is a special type of map found in the endgame system related to the Atlas of Worlds. Tier 17 maps act as bridge between regular Atlas/endgame boss content and uber pinnacle boss content. Completing a Tier 17 map for the first time unlocks an additional map device slot.

Mechanics

Tier 17 maps have a base area level of 84, making it easier to obtain item level 85-86 item bases required for certain powerful modifiers on items.

Tier 17 maps differ from regular maps in the following ways:

• Instead of a white, yellow, or red engraving icon to indicate the map's tier, the map and icon itself is purple.
• Tier 17 maps always generate with six affixes, including a Tier 17 exclusive prefix and suffix. The remaining affixes are most modifiers that can roll on Red Tier maps (tier 11-16).
  • Tier 17 exclusive modifiers grant a significant modifier to pack size, item rarity, currency drops, map drops, or scarab drops.
  • Tier 17 maps can only be directly modified by Chaos OrbsChaos OrbStack Size: 20Reforges a rare item with new random modifiersRight click this item then left click a rare item to apply it., Vaal OrbsVaal OrbStack Size: 20Corrupts an item, modifying it unpredictablyRight click this item then left click an item to corrupt it. • Unlike Valdo's Maps, tier 17 maps are affected by the Atlas Passive Tree.
• Tier 17 maps will are affected by map fragments and map crafting options from your Map Device when opened.
• Tier 17 maps contain several types of exclusive monster packs including monsters based on various map bosses or special enemies which can only otherwise be encountered by allocating Invasive Adversaries.
• Tier 17 map bosses are also enhanced ("uber") versions of bosses from existing league mechanics, such as The Unbreakable (Heist), Uhtred (Expedition), and Catarina (Betrayal). These bosses can each drop an exclusive unique item and the map fragments required to open an uber pinnacle boss encounter. They also have an increased chance to drop Guardian maps or Synthesis Maps.

Due to their relative difficulty compared to Tier 16 maps, players may employ certain strategies to make these map encounters easier. Examples include:

• 1x Delirium Orb to make the map 20% Delirious causes the boss to deal 6% more damage and have 16% damage reduction, but will cause the boss' action to be interrupted frequently by relatively weaker Delirium Modifier skills.
• The Dutiful Soldier, Mighty Hunter, and Packed with Energy provide buffs.
• Shrines and Tormented Spirits with Speaker of the Dead can grant buffs to players.

Acquisition

Voidstones, when socketed into the Atlas of Worlds, have a chance to convert Tier 16 maps into a random Tier 17 map. This chance does not increase linearly per Voidstone socketed. With average map investment and four Voidstones, a player can expect a Tier 17 map drop roughly once every 5 maps. To prevent a massive disparity of Tier 17 map drops with certain "juicing" strategies, Tier 17 map drops are subject to "diminishing returns" within a map; this means that the first Tier 17 map dropped in a map will use the above conversion rate, then diminish to a unannounced point for subsequent drops in the same map.

The type of tier 17 map dropped depends on the map the player is currently in. Each map has a tag similar to map_drops_can_upgrade_to_X; for example, maps dropped while inside Dunes MapDunes MapMap Level: 69

As described above, the following list displays the maps inside which each tier 17 map can be obtained. The actual map dropped prior to conversion does not matter; only the map the player is currently in. Maps dropped in Shaper Guardian maps and the Shaper's Realm can convert into any type of tier 17 map. This information can also be viewed by hovering over tier 14+ maps after socketing one or more Voidstones into the Atlas of Worlds.

Tier 17 map bosses drop 1 to 3 fragments, each fragment an 80% chance of being from the biased group (evenly distributed). A breakpoint of approximately 400% increased area item quantity is required to guarantee at least 2 fragments to drop.

3.25.0	After socketing your first Voidstone on the Atlas, you can now hover over Tier 14 and higher Maps and view what Tier 17 Map can be dropped there. Monsters in Tier 17 Maps now have less Life and deal less Damage, now fitting better into the progression between Pinnacle and Uber Pinnacle content. Tier 17 Maps are now modifiable only with Chaos Orbs, Vaal Orbs, Delirium Orbs and Chisels (previously only Chaos Orbs). They also now drop with a random Quality, rather than always dropping with 20% Quality. The Union of Souls Map Modifier can no longer roll on non-Valdo's Tier 17 Maps. Exclusive Tier 17 Map Modifiers now have Increased Item Rarity to Quantity ratios more in line with regular Map modifiers. The Tier 17 Map Modifier that causes an area to contain additional Clusters of Highly Volatile Barrels has been removed. In its place, we've added a new Modifier that provides a chance for Rare Monsters to Fracture on death. Improved the Meteor telegraphing for the "Players are targeted by a Meteor when they use a Flask" Tier 17 Map Modifier. The Meteor also now has a 2 second cooldown.
3.24.1	Many modifiers that can roll on Tier 16 Maps can now also roll on Tier 17 Maps. Modifiers that can only roll on Tier 17 Maps are now rewarding in one of the 5 following ways: Enhanced Pack Size, Enhanced Item Rarity, More Currency Found, More Maps Found, or More Scarabs Found. Tier 17 Map Bosses now have a significantly higher chance to drop Elder Guardian, Shaper Guardian, Conqueror Maps and Synthesis Maps Tier 17 Maps will always roll with one Tier 17-exclusive prefix one Tier 17-exclusive suffix. The Tier 17 Map modifier that causes Rare and Unique Monsters to remove a percentage of Life, Mana and Energy Shield on hit now only removes from Players or their Minions. The "Rare and Unique Monsters spawn a Tormented Spirit on reaching Low Life" Map modifier can no longer roll on Tier 17 Maps. Existing Maps with this modifier now instead have "Unique Bosses are Possessed".
