Awakened support gems are a subcategory of support gems that are usually improved versions of existing support gems which at level one are more powerful than the level 20 versions of the ones they replace. Their effects override and do not stack with their non-awakened versions. In addition, all awakened support gems have a higher level requirement (starting at character level 72) and require significantly more experience per level to level up. They have a chance to drop from Maven-witnessed map bosses Tiers 14 and higher, the Maven's Crucible invitations, The Maven's Writ, and Uber Sirus. Some awakened support gems exclusively drop from the Maven (or Uber Maven).

Unlike regular gems, awakened gems have a maximum gem level of 5 (4 for the Exceptional gems). Many also unlock an additional effect only when the gem has reached its maximum level. The maximum level to 20 quality version vendor recipe will not work on them, so the player will need to use Gemcutter's PrismGemcutter's PrismStack Size: 20Improves the quality of a gemRight click this item then left click a gem to apply it. The maximum quality is 20%.
Shift click to unstack. to add quality. Corruption outcomes function the same as other regular support gems.[1]

At present, there are 38 Awakened Support Gems.

Awakened support gems do not have alternative quality. The effect per quality of awakened gem may be numerically higher than the non-awakened version.

Acquisition

Certain Awakened Gems have a chance to drop from The Maven's Crucible after completing a Maven's Invitation. This includes the following gems:

The Maven has a chance to drop all Awakened non-Exceptional support gems. Additionally, Maven-witnessed map bosses in T14+ maps or other witnessable bosses (e.g. Breachlords) has a slim chance to drop these gems.

Uber Maven can drop all Awakened support gems, including Awakened Exceptional support gems.

The mod on the atlas passive skill: The Perfect Storm gives Uber Sirus a 20% chance to drop all Awakened non-Exceptional support gems.
