Scorching Ray is a channelling fire spell skill that fires a beam that inflicts burning damage to targets in front of the caster and applies fire exposure at maximum stages.

Skill functions and interactions

  • Scorching Ray inflicts a damage over time debuff for a duration, which is refreshed while enemies are in the beam.[1]
    • An entity can take damage from multiple Scorching Ray debuffs when inflicted by different exiles or totems.[2] Each debuff gains stages individually, up to the maximum of 8.[3]
  • Scorching Ray has a delay, equal to the cast time, between the pressing of the skill and the appearance of the beam.
  • Even a brief contact with the beam applies the first stage of the debuff against an unaffected target, allowing reliable application by quickly sweeping the beam across the screen. Additional stages are applied on each channelling tick, if targets remain in the beam.
  • While channelling Scorching Ray, the player has a reduced turning rate. Increasing scorching ray's cast speed will increase the rate at which the player can rotate while channelling it, up to a maximum +150% increased cast speed modifier.[4]
  • Reaching maximum stacks applies the exposure debuff, which lowers the target's fire resistance by 25%.
    • This may be modified by stats like Fire Exposure you inflict applies an extra -5% to Fire Resistance when cast by the player. These stats do not currently apply when Scorching Ray is cast by a totem, possibly due to a bug.[5]
  • Despite its name, Scorching Ray cannot scorch enemies, as it does not hit.
