"Tier 17 map" redirects here. For "Valdo Maps", another Tier 17 equivalent of map that award a specific unique on completion, see Valdo's Puzzle Box.

A Tier 17 Map, also known as T17 or uber map, is a special type of map found in the endgame system related to the Atlas of Worlds. Tier 17 maps act as bridge between regular Atlas/endgame boss content and uber pinnacle boss content. Completing a Tier 17 map for the first time unlocks the fifth map device slot.

Mechanics

Tier 17 maps have a base area level of 84, making it easier to obtain item level 85-86 item bases required for certain powerful modifiers on items.

Tier 17 maps differ from regular maps in the following ways:

  • Instead of a white, yellow, or red engraving icon to indicate the map's tier, the icon itself is purple.
  • Tier 17 maps have their own pool of modifiers consisting of Red Tier (tier 11-16) modifiers and exclusive Tier 17 modifiers.
  • Tier 17 maps will always have six affixes, including a Tier 17 exclusive prefix and suffix.
  • Tier 17 maps always drop with 20% quality. They cannot drop corrupted nor can they become corrupted.
  • Tier 17 maps cannot be modified with any currency items except Chaos OrbsChaos OrbStack Size: 20Reforges a rare item with new random modifiersRight click this item then left click a rare item to apply it.. However, they can be enhanced with map fragments or map crafting options when opened.
  • Unlike Valdo's Maps, tier 17 maps are affected by the Atlas Passive Tree.[1]
  • Tier 17 maps have specific types of monster packs based on previous Path of Exile league mechanics like Heist or Expedition. They retain some of their specific mechanics, such as Expedition rare monsters having Ward.
  • Tier 17 map bosses are also enhanced ("uber") versions of bosses from these mechanics, such as The Unbreakable (Heist), Uhtred (Expedition), and Catarina (Betrayal). These bosses can each drop an exclusive unique item, as well as map fragments required to open an uber pinnacle boss encounter.

Acquisition

Voidstones, when socketed into the Atlas of Worlds, have a chance to convert Tier 16 maps into a random Tier 17 map. The initial conversion chance can be calculated with the following formula: = , where is the number of socketed Voidstones.

Voidstones Initial conversion
chance
1 0.4%
2 1.6%
3 3.6%
4 6.4%

With average map investment, a player can expect to see a Tier 17 map drop roughly once every 5 maps. To prevent a massive disparity of Tier 17 maps drops with certain "juicing" strategies, Tier 17 map drops are subject to "diminishing returns" within a map; this means that the first Tier 17 map dropped in a map will use the above conversion rate, then diminish to a unannounced point for subsequent drops in the same map.[2]

The type of tier 17 map dropped depends on the map the player is currently in. Each map has a tag similar to map_drops_can_upgrade_to_X; for example, being in a Dunes MapDunes MapMap Level: 69

. This conversion ignores Singular Focus' restrictions. Maps dropped in Shaper Guardian maps and the Shaper's Realm can convert into any type of tier 17 map.

Tier 17 maps cannot drop inside a Tier 17 map.

List of tier 17 map drop locations

As described above, the following list displays the maps inside which tier 17 map can be obtained. The actual map dropped prior to conversion does not matter; only the map the player is currently in. Maps dropped in Shaper Guardian maps and the Shaper's Realm can convert into any type of tier 17 map.
