Ward
Ward is a defence capable of taking damage from hits before life or energy shield. It can only be found on item bases and uniques related to Expedition and Kingsmarch.
Mechanics
Ward is not a pool that can be depleted partially; it is either unbroken or broken. Ward does not break when a hit is prevented (e.g. evasion, spell dodge), when a hit's damage is fully mitigated (e.g. immunity, avoidance, block), or when damage is fully taken from another resource first (e.g. an Aegis buff).
Hit damage that would reach energy shield, life, or mana is first taken by your Ward and breaks Ward for a duration. Any damage left over is taken by your energy shield, life, or mana.[1]
Broken Ward is restored after a set delay, normally 2 seconds, which is modified by #% faster/slower Restoration of Ward modifiers. Taking hits while Ward is broken has no effect on the delay.
No type of hit damage bypasses Ward. But ward does not take damage or break due to damage over time.
