Melee Splash Support is a support gem that can be linked with a melee strike skill gem to add a splash effect to the attack, dealing damage around each enemy struck by it.

Skills supported by Melee Splash do not receive the AoE gem tag.[1]

Modifiers to AoE (e.g. Area of Effect radius and Area Damage) will apply to the AoE component of Melee Splash. However, damage on target initially struck does not count as an AoE and will not be affected by relevant bonuses, using splash effectively grants a normal hit on the primary target plus a donut-shaped AoE around it.

The area of effect created by Melee Splash has a base radius of 14 units.[2]

Melee Splash will also "spread" effects, for example, if your initial hit is a knockback to the target you hit with a single-target skill, nearby enemies within the radius of Melee Splash will also get knocked back.
