Damage conversion modifiers do not affect the damage from Trauma. However, damage taken as modifiers such as #% of Physical Damage from Hits taken as Cold Damage will shift the damage you take, allowing mitigation via elemental resistances. Additionally, it is possible to chill, freeze, or shock yourself this way; it is not possible to self-inflict damaging ailments unless you have a source of All Damage from Hits can Ignite/Poison you such as Mokou's EmbraceMokou's Embrace

Recoup is a valuable stat to have due to the escalating damage quickly exceeding and overpowering other forms of recovery, whereas Recoup will always recover the same percentage of damage received.
