Bestiary

Main page: Bestiary

With the help of Einhar Frey, many species of beasts can be captured and brought to the Menagerie to be sacrificed for beastcrafting.

When encountering a beast, Einhar will appear to assist the player and will throw nets at beasts with low health to capture them. Captured beasts are recorded in the Bestiary.

Types of beasts

Yellow Beasts have one Bestiary mod have a yellow icon on the minimap. Red Beasts have two Bestiary mods have a red icon on the minimap. Red beasts have significantly higher life and spawns monsters periodically.

There are also four Spirit Beasts which are avatars of the animalistic Ezomyte gods called the First Ones. These beasts must be by opening a portal to their respective domains through the blood altar by sacrificing a specific "portal beast". Each Spirit Beast drops an exclusive set of four themed unique armours and are also captured when defeated, which then can be used in Beastcrafting to add an Aspect skill affix on an item.

The hunt

From Act 2 on, Einhar appears in areas together with some beasts. There will be at least one red beast and roughly two to five yellow beasts.

The mechanics differ from those in the Bestiary league. Once a beast drops below 50% life, Einhar will appear in the zone to assist in the hunt. Einhar can attack at a range, fire a barrage of crossbow shots or throw an explosive on a cooldown, and provides an aura that grants life leech and life gain on hit. He will throw nets at beasts that are low on health to capture them. The instance owner always gets the beast, regardless how far they are. Other party members within a 250 unit radius (25 metres) or roughly two screens have a chance of obtaining a beast, based on the item quantity bonus for party play. Einhar leaves once all the beasts are captured, unless the Mighty Hunter Atlas passive is allocated.

Loot dropped by captured beasts is affected by the quantity and rarity modifiers of the instance owner.[1]

Beasts can also be found in a Beast node in the Azurite Mine. These beast can be killed, but will get added to your Menagerie once defeated.

Beastcrafting

Main page: Beastcrafting

Beastcrafting is a method of crafting by sacrificing beasts to the blood altar in the Menagerie. Beastcrafting requires four beasts to be sacrificed, with most of them require one or two specific red beasts and two or three yellow beasts. When beastcrafting, the four beasts chosen are released into the arena surrounding the blood altar and must be killed to complete the recipe. If the player dies during the attempt, the recipe fails and the beasts are lost.

Trivia

In the Bestiary league, players had to capture beasts themselves using nets. Some resurrected or undead versions of beasts (e.g. Bone Rhoas) did not not count as beasts, and therefore could not be captured. However, interestingly, Skeletal Beasts like Tyrannursus Maximus and The Great White Bones could be captured.
