The Shaper

Uber Elder is a dual boss encounter where the player fights both the Elder and the Shaper at the same time. Defeating the Uber Elder for the first time will reward the player with a Decayed VoidstoneDecayed VoidstoneThe Elder fed on all that gave life meaning
until it encountered an unbreakable bond.Socket this into your Atlas to increase the Tier of all Maps. that can be socketed into the Atlas.

The encounter has no phases, however, one of the bosses will be invulnerable, and this will alternate between the two bosses every time the player damages the vulnerable boss for 25% of his health. Zana Caeserius does not assist the player during this fight, unlike both the Elder and the Shaper encounters where she is present and provides various defensive abilities.

Entry

Players must use the following fragments in their map device to fight Uber Elder (Elder and Shaper). These fragments can be obtained by defeating The Shaper and The Elder, and can also be traded amongst players.

The arena is the same as the Absence of Value and Meaning, but the character first enters The Shaper's Realm, and then takes a portal to the final arena. The arena and staging areas are in the same instance.

Recommendations

The Uber Elder is considered to be one of the most difficult boss encounters in Path of Exile, as players are pitted against both The Elder and The Shaper simultaneously. Players must be very careful to place the Shaper's Vortex portals around the edges of the arena failing which the entire arena will littered with permanent vortices that cause heavy damage over time. Players have to also avoid the Elder's Ring of Death and the Shaper Beam and Projectiles, all of which can be deadly if not dealt with properly.

The following is recommended:

  • Mastery of the mechanics of The Elder and The Shaper
  • At least 1 million damage per second
  • Capped elemental resistances (fire, cold and lightning resistance at 75%); additional Maximum Cold Resistance is also useful for Shaper balls and Elder icicles.
  • At least 5,000 combined Life and Energy Shield and a reliable source of recovery
  • Moderate mitigation or avoidance, including Physical damage reduction, Armour, Block, Spell Suppression
  • Movement skill to avoid Shaper's beam and both bosses' slams

Skills

The Elder is assisted by the Shaper in this battle. The battle essentially pits the player against both bosses, with some differences:

  • One of the bosses will be invulnerable, alternating between the Elder then the Shaper for every 25% health lost. After the 25% health intermission phase, both bosses will be vulnerable; the Shaper can be killed, but the Elder cannot be killed or culled and instead plays a death cutscene upon reaching 0% health.
  • Volatile Anomalies and Madness Propagators will continuously spawn during the fight, alternating every 20 seconds. These will create vortex ground or eldritch decay pools on the floor which deal damage over time and last for the duration of the fight. Madness Propagators must be defeated to prevent them from creating their degens; Volatile Anomalies cannot be hit but can be walked through to detonate them in a safe location.
  • There are no special intermission phases from either boss.
  • At each 1/4 health lost from both bosses, the Elder or Shaper will spawn additional monsters.
    • The Elder will summon multiple Null Portals at 25 and 75% health. The Elder will not attack during this intermission phase.
    • The Shaper channels a monster portal like in his regular fight at 50% health. The Shaper will not attack during this intermission phase.
  • The Elder does not use his Super Siphon attack or the debuff Crystalised Fear status icon.pngCrystalised Fear
  • The Shaper does not use his Shadow Clone or Bullet Hell attack.

  • The Shaper fires a slow-moving grey ball that seeks the player
    • Once the ball touches the player, it will create a vortex on the ground, that deals heavy cold damage over time if players stand within it
    • Players must attract the balls to the edges of the arena to prevent the vortex from restricting the player's mobility
    • Each vortex lasts for the duration of the entire fight, thus players must be very careful to attract them to the edges of the arena
  • To escape a vortex:
    • Players must immediately blink or run from it and continue attacking from another direction
    • If the Elder or Shaper is surrounded by portals, simply wait till he relocates or till some of the portals disappear

Uber boss variant

With the Cosmic Wounds Atlas keystone passive, Uber Elder is fought in Area Level 85 and greatly increases in difficulty. The fight with the Uber Elder will have the following changes:

  • Area has the mod Monsters take 70% less damage
  • The Shaper's ball projectile attack fires two additional projectiles, and penetrates 40% Cold Resistance instead.
  • The Shaper's slam attack is faster, has a larger area of effect, and does more damage.
  • The Shaper will use his Bullet Hell attack, but he fires less projectiles (but more than in the Uber Shaper fight).
  • The Elder will create three Rings of Death in a row.

Uber Uber Elder has a 100% increased chance to drop an Orb of DominanceOrb of DominanceStack Size: 10Removes one Influenced Modifier from an item with at least two Influenced Modifiers and upgrades another Influenced Modifier. Upgrading a modifier of the highest tier transforms the modifier into an Elevated Modifier. Attempting to upgrade an Elevated Modifier rerolls its values. Can be used on Body Armours, Boots, Gloves and Helmets.Right click this item then left click an item with at least two Influenced Modifiers to apply it.

The Elder drops several Shaper-influenced and Elder-influenced items when slain.

If a Watcher's Eye drops, it will have 3 mods. The mods are random; it is possible to obtain a Watcher's Eye with 3 mods for the same aura skill (extremely valuable), as well as 3 mods for 3 different skills (less valuable). Watcher's Eye naturally has a ~25% chance to drop.

Lore

The Uber Elder was the final boss encounter in the War for the Atlas expansion, which occupied the Shaper's Realm. However, that end-game storyline was retired and replaced by the Conquerors of the Atlas (itself was replaced by the end game of Siege of the Atlas). According to the Conquerors of the Atlas game lore, the Elder was slain by the Elderslayers led by Sirus, Awakener of Worlds, and was removed from the Atlas. Players can still fight Uber Elder using the Maddening ObjectMaddening ObjectCan be used in a personal Map Device. map fragments, but do not need to chase the Elder and Shaper across the Atlas anymore. These map fragments can be obtained by defeating the Shaper and the Elder. This encounter is formally known as "The Elder in the Shaper's Realm".
