Crafting
Crafting is a core mechanic of Path of Exile involving using currency or other techniques to modify the stats and properties of items. Almost all items interact with crafting mechanics in some way.

Crafting benches and vendors
Crafting benches are interactable objects that provide a variety of different crafting options, and may offer exclusive effects or a greater degree of control with crafting.
- Crafting Bench - unlocked in the player's hideout as soon as Act 2, it can apply crafted modifiers to an item, deterministically modify an item's sockets, or apply meta-crafting modifiers, such as Suffixes Cannot Be Changed or Cannot roll Attack Modifiers for more advanced crafting methods. Most crafts in the crafting bench are unlocked by finding crafting recipes in the campaign or in maps.
- Veiled modifiers - special craftable modifiers can be unlocked by unveiling veiled items found from Betrayal encounters. The Catarina boss encounter also is the only method to unlock crafted modifiers for flasks.
- Vendor recipes - specific vendor recipes can be used to obtain specific items or guarantee certain modifiers on items.
- Map Device - unlocked in the Epilogue, the Map Device allows players to apply map crafting options when opening maps to guarantee certain encounters, as well as apply Exarch or Eater influence to or have the Maven witness a map.
- Certain scarabs also interact with map crafting options, such as
Scarab of BisectionScarab of BisectionStack Size: 20

- Certain scarabs also interact with map crafting options, such as
- The Divine Font - found in the Lord's Labyrinth; it grants various crafting options for gems, and is the primary way to obtain transfigured gems.
- Beastcrafting - sacrifices specific types of Beasts from Bestiary encounters for various crafting methods, including guaranteed flask suffixes that grant immunity to ailments, access to Aspect reservation skills, and a deterministic method of adding 6-sockets or 6-links to an item by sacrificing a Black Mórrigan.
- Betrayal crafting benches - some Betrayal members may offer crafting benches as a reward in safehouses which can modify sockets several times, add experience to gems, or provide a time-limited opportunity to craft a normal item with a fixed pool of currency.
- Harvest crafting - spends Lifeforce obtained from Harvest for various crafting methods, many of which guarantee a random modifier matching a specific tag. It can also change stacks of currencies or fragments into different types, swap elemental resistance modifiers between different elements, or add certain enchantments to weapons and body armour.
- Gwennen - unlocked through Expedition encounters, Gwennen offers the opportunity to gamble for unique items using Broken Circle Artifacts and
AstragaliAstragaliStack Size: 1000These can be brought to Gwennen to refresh her vendor inventory.
.
- Rog - unlocked through Expedition encounters, Rog allows the crafting of powerful rare items by adding, removing, and reforging modifiers in specific ways using Order Artifacts and
Scrap MetalScrap MetalStack Size: 1000These can be brought to Rog to refresh his vendor inventory.
.
The following crafting methods are exclusive to the current temporary league:
- The Black Market - unlocked through Faustus in Kingsmarch, Faustus may offer items that roll a random basetype and rarity when purchased. Items obtained this way tend to have higher-tier modifiers. This method can result in unique items, similarly to Gwennen.
- Recombinator (Kingsmarch) - combines two items to create a new item inheriting modifiers from each item, similar to the currency originally from Sentinel league.
Historical crafting methods
The following crafting methods are no longer accessible due to being removed from or reworked in the core game with significant changes.
- Prophecies were a mechanic that was once usable to upgrade certain unique items into Fated Uniques by defeating a designated monster. However, Prophecies were removed in version 3.17.0, and most Fated Uniques became drop-disabled and are unobtainable in temporary leagues.
- Harvest crafting was changed multiple times over several leagues; it was initially a crafting bench found inside the Sacred Grove itself, and offered significantly more powerful crafting methods including the ability to add or remove modifiers matching specific modifier tags and adding a Harvest implicit mod to jewels. Crafts were tied to specific harvest monsters and had fixed uses instead of generically consuming Lifeforce.
