Despite not being part of the Atlas, this map can still be affected by atlas passive skill that affects Synthesised Map. Note that atlas passive skill cannot affect maps from Kirac's atlas mission.
The map has two pools of map modifiers: "synthesis local" pool (mod domain = 18) or map modifiers, and "synthesis global " pool (mod domain = 19) or reward modifiers.
Layout
The area was known as Fractured Laboratory during the initial release (Synthesis league),[1][2] but known as Cortex in the Memory Nexus Map UI.[3] When this area is re-introduced as unique map in version 3.8, it is known as Cortex only.

This will make pre-3.17 Cortex unique Relic Chambers Map (that is not yet corrupted) unable to be divined.

All 5 Synthesis maps can now drop as unique items. They can only be acquired from map bosses of Tier 11 or greater maps (or Tier 14 or greater for Cortex), or if you're very, very lucky, maybe Zana will sell you one.
The Cortex map is now more commonly available from Zana relative to the other Synthesis maps, and is now always level 83 (previously had a variable level).
All Synthesis maps now require a minimum level 80 area to appear in Zana's mission window.

If you're lucky, Zana will now offer 5 new unique maps as part of her missions. Each map contains a boss encounter originally from the Synthesis league, and each can drop unique items originally exclusive to that league. Note, you cannot obtain Fractured items, nor will you have any access to the Synthesiser.
↑ 1.01.11.2The patch notes incorrectly stated that unique maps did not changed tier, however, they did. In 3.11, Cortex 's base tier is T9 and also have T11 and T14 variants. All variants have an area/monster level override, however. In 3.12 and 3.13, Cortex's map tiers are not changed. But other unique maps have changes in tiers.
↑Contrary to the patch note that unique maps do not have monster level overrides anymore, all Synthesis Maps have introduced monster level overrides since version 3.9.0. In specific, Cortex can dropped with variable tiers since circa version 3.10.0.
