As players progress through the game, there are several monsters that present interesting choices to supplement summoner and hybrid-summon builds alike. Even for a non-summoner build, a single curse-casting spectre whose AI helps them stay away can be quite useful. In practice, it's not that easy to keep a sole spectre alive without having other bodies around to shield it - this means parties and hybrid/full-summon builds. | As players progress through the game, there are several monsters that present interesting choices to supplement summoner and hybrid-summon builds alike. Some guidance on Spectre corpse availability when raising Spectres in | Some guidance on Spectre corpse availability when raising Spectres in maps: | ||
*Maps have a default sub-set of monster types that will spawn, usually related to the tileset. | |||
*Monsters like Stygian Revenants (Undead) and Undying Evangelists (Humanoid) will have better chance to spawn with a map mod that changes the allowed monster types. | |||
*Taking existing Spectres into a map adds them to the list of spawnable corpses via Desecrate if allowed by the map, even if there are no monsters of that type present. This seems to be related to the default sub-set above. E.g. taking Flame Sentinels into Temple Map will allow their corpses to be spawned by Desecrate. Note that map mods that change spawn-type such as MapMonsterPacksHumanoidsMapWorlds will prevent Flame Sentinel corpses from spawning. Some maps will be more difficult than others to obtain matching corpses, probably because the actual monster variety in the map tileset is higher. Sometimes this takes dozens of casts, in which case using traps and mines to multiply the number of corpses can be useful. | |||
*Some monsters that are normally only found in Tier 17 maps have a chance to appear in maps with the Invasive Adversaries Atlas passive allocated, allowing you to find them much earlier into mapping. | |||

Raise Spectre is a minion spell skill that summons a defeated enemy as an allied minion.
Skill functions and interactions
- Monster types: Raised Spectres typically retain the basic abilities they had in life, though not any properties gained from monster rarity or monster modifiers. Additionally, some monsters may have modified stats, behaviour, or skills as Spectres. For example, Necromancers will still cast curses but not raise minions.
- Some monsters like Reanimators and Spectral Tacticians do retain the ability to summon their own minions (Zombies and Raging Spirits, respectively). Minions' minions are not the player's minions, and will only be affected by Minion-specific stats on support gems and stats that affect allies, like Auras.
- Support gems: Raise Spectre can be supported by many different types of support gems, but not all of them may be beneficial depending on the type of Spectres raised. Minion-specific support gems will work on every type of spectre, but a more specific gem such as Greater Multiple Projectiles SupportGreater Multiple Projectiles SupportSupport, Projectile

Additional Effects From 1-20% Quality:
Supported Skills deal (0.5-10)% increased Projectile DamageThis is a Support Gem. It does not grant a bonus to your character, but to skills in sockets connected to it. Place into an item socket connected to a socket containing the Skill Gem you wish to augment. Right click to remove from a socket. will only affect spectres with projectile abilities.- Note that support gems grant stats to minions globally, not separately to each of their skills. This means an attack-only support like Module Error: No results found for item using search term "item_name = Withering Touch Support" can modify spellcaster spectres, as the added stats are not limited to attacks.[1]
- Minions do not snapshot their support gems: they gain stats from gems that are currently linked to the Raise Spectre gem, not gems linked when a specific minion was raised. A player can summon minions without certain support gems (e.g. to lower the cost, or to avoid uncontrolled targeting by Module Error: No results found for item using search term "item_name = Spell Echo Support") and then fully link the skill afterward.

Strategy
As players progress through the game, there are several monsters that present interesting choices to supplement summoner and hybrid-summon builds alike. Even for a non-summoner build, a single curse-casting spectre whose AI helps them stay away can be quite useful. In practice, it's not that easy to keep a sole spectre alive without having other bodies around to shield it - this means parties and hybrid/full-summon builds.
Popular Spectres
These Spectres are used often due to their strong AI, damage, or mechanics:
Spectre | Location |
---|---|
Slave Driver | The Control Blocks (Act 5) |
Solar Guard | (Act 8): The Solaris Temple Level 1 or Level 2, The Harbour Bridge, The Solaris Concourse |
Risen Vaal Advocate | The Temple of Atzoatl |
Syndicate Operative | Betrayal encounters |
Frost Auto-Scout | Tunnels Heist contracts |
Wretched Defiler | Tier 17 maps (or any map with Invasive Adversaries, sometimes) |
Party-friendly
The following list are a small sample of Spectres that are compatible with parties in general since they are both useful and have a relatively low graphics load for the sake of others:
- Snow Cloak - They of Tul found in Tul's Domain
- Increased Damage Taken buffs:
- 15% increased Damage taken + 15% reduced action speed - Pale Seraphim (Beyond)
- 3% increased Physical Damage taken (stacks to 20) - Demon Harpy (Beyond)
- Cold Damage taken - Primal Crushclaw (Harvest)
- Lightning Damage taken - Primal Rhex Matriarch (Harvest)
- 20% increased Chaos Damage taken - Gilded Arach from Hunter-influenced Maps[5]
- Applies a green Shock that always increase Damage Taken by 20% - Senior Heretech (Heist)
- Covers Enemies in Ash (Fire Damage taken) - Xoph's Loyal (Breach) - (Only used once when on low life, and unable to be used again)[6]
- Fire Exposure (-25% Fire Res (Scorching Ray)) - Tukohama's Vanguard (Act 6)
- 20% Shocked Ground + 30% reduced action speed - Syndicate Silencer (does not scale with ailment effect[7])
- Damage boosting buffs:
- 20% increased action speed - Spectral Leader, found in Tier 17 maps
- Enrage (+20% Move speed, attack speed, cast speed) - Arena Master, found from Warlord-influenced Maps
- Rallying Cry (increased damage and reduced damage taken to allies) - Ruins Hellion
- 20% of Physical Damage gained as Fire - Trial Chieftain (The Tower of Ordeals)
- 20% of Physical Damage gained as Fire - Xoph's Favoured (Breach)[8]
- 20% of Physical Damage gained as Lightning - Baranite Cleric from Crusader-influenced Maps
- Grants Frenzy Charges - Carnage Chieftain, Stygian Silverback (Act 2); Aboriginal Chieftain (Untainted Paradise, larger)
- Grants Power Charges - Host Chieftain (Act 6)
- Curse-specialists (see below)
- Other (see below)

Affliction league
The Breaker of Oaths in the Affliction league sells corpse items that create a monster corpse on the ground. Many of these monsters cannot be found as raisable enemies and rare corpses come with abilities that buff the player or party. However, these monsters are not added to the Desecrate corpse pool after being raised. Should you lose them, you must buy their corpses again to reuse them.

Finding Spectres in Maps
Some guidance on Spectre corpse availability when raising Spectres in maps:
- Maps have a default sub-set of monster types that will spawn, usually related to the tileset.
- Monsters like Stygian Revenants (Undead) and Undying Evangelists (Humanoid) will have better chance to spawn with a map mod that changes the allowed monster types.
- Taking existing Spectres into a map adds them to the list of spawnable corpses via DesecrateDesecrateSpell, AoE, Duration, Chaos
