This article describes historical game content.

Darkshrines were altars where players could sacrifice a rare item in exchange for a random effect. The effect of an activated shrine depended on the sacrificed item, and stronger items generally created better outcomes. Darkshrines appeared only in the Darkshrine leagues.

A darkshrine was not guaranteed to appear in each instance, and instances could have more than one darkshrine.

There were 195 darkshrine effects.[1] Many of them used content from the previous challenge leagues. The effect of a shrine seemed to be determined by choosing a random affix on the rare item.
