Fishing Rod is a fishing rod base type. It is also the only fishing rod base type.

While most two-handed weapons can have up to six sockets, Fishing Rods are restricted to a maximum of four.

Status as an Easter egg

The inclusion of Fishing Rods in Path of Exile is an Easter egg in reference to a running joke by Grinding Gear Games about the existence of secret gameplay features related to fishing. It has so far not been confirmed that any such gameplay features legitimately exist.

First in-game appearance

On September 6, 2013, player swordly started a thread on the official Path of Exile forums claiming to have found a Fishing Rod. His post included a link to a Youtube video that shows in-game footage of a rare two-handed sword called Torment Bite, Fishing Rod. In the video, the Fishing Rod sword has an appearance identical to , but has unusual modifiers for two-handed swords, including 38% increased Fishing Line Strength and Rhoa Feather Lure. The item's existence was confirmed by Grinding Gear Games developer, Rory Rackham, who stated that it was never intended to exist and that it would soon be removed from the game. On September 9, 2013, all Fishing Rod swords were deleted from characters' inventories in the version 0.11.5c update.
