An Orb of Scouring is a currency item that can be used to remove all random modifiers from a magic or rare piece of equipment. Implicit modifiers, quality, sockets, and links are not removed, as well as affixes protected by meta-crafting mods.

When an Orb of Scouring removes all but one modifier, the item will be downgraded to magic instead of normal. (With two modifiers, the item will remain rare.)

Orbs of Scouring can also be used for the following:

• Removing a tattoo or runegraft from a passive skill
• Un-scrying a map using the Atlas of Worlds menu
• Deallocating a Crucible passive skill
