Fractured Fossil is a fossil type which allows players to duplicate rare items. Using this fossil on items is typically called "fracturing" an item. This item is completely unrelated to Fractured mods.

It works in a somewhat similar fashion as the Fenumal Plagued Arachnid beast, referred to as "beast splitting".

Mechanics

Warning: Using a Fractured Fossil to split a map or blueprint will result in the Split tag being added to both items, preventing you from making further copies of either item unless a Mirror of KalandraMirror of KalandraStack Size: 10Creates a mirrored copy of an itemRight click this item then left click an equipable non-unique item to apply it. A resonator with the Fractured Fossil will reroll the mods on the original item,[1] and create a mirrored copy of the original. The fossil should not be used in place of a Mirror of KalandraMirror of KalandraStack Size: 10Creates a mirrored copy of an itemRight click this item then left click an equipable non-unique item to apply it. Uses

Before version 3.14, fractured fossils could be used to profitably duplicate high-investment maps. The randomized original would retain Delirium orbs and Harvest-specific map enchantments, as well as Fractured mod. It was also a comparatively inexpensive way to duplicate Labyrinth Enchantments. It was the most valuable fossil in the game, and typically traded for one or more Exalted OrbExalted OrbStack Size: 20Augments a rare item with a new random modifierRight click this item then left click a rare item to apply it. Rare items can have up to six random modifiers.s.

After version 3.14, using a fractured fossil on an item adds the "Split" tag to both items (similar to "Mirrored" tag), which prevents the items from being fractured again. Split items cannot be split again, and cannot have Imprints made of them or applied to them. However the item can still be mirrored using a Mirror of KalandraMirror of KalandraStack Size: 10Creates a mirrored copy of an itemRight click this item then left click an equipable non-unique item to apply it. Mirrored copies cannot be modified..

Steps

The steps to duplicating a map/blueprint using this fossil is as follows:

  1. First acquire a valuable map/blueprint (it needs to be non-Mirrored, ie. without the "Mirrored" mod)
  2. Purchase a Fractured FossilFractured FossilStack Size: 10Creates a split copy

    as well
  6. You should have at least 2 fossils at this point (Fractured & Metallic/Corroded), or 3 along with Dense Fossil
  7. Add the fossils into the resonator
  8. Right-click the resonator and click on the map/blueprint, it should generate a new mirrored map/blueprint

Vendor recipe

Five Fractured Fossils can be used to duplicate basetypes by selling five copies to a vendor to receive a non-mirrored, unidentified item. Note that 5 to 1 recipe will yield a non-influenced copy, while the Item sells for much more to vendors will override vendor recipe.

Item acquisition

Fractured Fossil has restrictions on where or how it can drop. Drops from completing a Humid Fissure node in Sulphur Vents biomes in the Azurite Mine.
