Not to be confused with Fractured.

Fractured Fossil is a fossil type which allows players to make a split copy of a rare item with randomized explicit modifiers.

It works in a somewhat similar fashion as the Fenumal Plagued Arachnid beast, referred to as "beast splitting". However, it has additional restrictions that prevent it from being used with items like blueprints.

Mechanics

A resonator with the Fractured Fossil will reroll the explicit mods on the original item and create an exact copy of the re-rolled item, causing both items to gain the Split tag. Socket colours and links will not be modified in this process. The fossil should not be used in place of a Mirror of KalandraMirror of KalandraStack Size: 10Creates a mirrored copy of an itemRight click this item then left click an equipable non-unique item to apply it. Mirrored copies cannot be modified. to duplicate mirror-tier items, as the original and copy will have its modifiers randomized.

Imprinted items can be split using Fractured Fossil, but the imprint cannot be used on either resultant split base ("Target item does not match the imprint" message will appear while trying to do so).[1] Despite this, imprinting and restoring already split items is possible.[2]

Uses

Using a fractured fossil on an item adds the Split tag to both items (like Fenumal Plagued Arachnid beast craft does). Items with Split tag cannot be split again. However the item can still be mirrored using a Mirror of KalandraMirror of KalandraStack Size: 10Creates a mirrored copy of an itemRight click this item then left click an equipable non-unique item to apply it. Mirrored copies cannot be modified..

Fractured Fossils can be used on maps as long as they do not have any enchantments (acquired from sources such as Delirium Orbs or through Harvest crafting). They can also be used to duplicate blueprints, although the copy must be revealed again. Unlike "beast splitting" the fossil does not work on Logbooks.

When used on an item with two Eldritch implicits, both the original and the copy will have two implicits. (Unlike the beast craft, which divides them.)

Since version 3.14.0, the fossil cannot be used on an Enchanted item, a Fractured item, a Synthesised item or Influenced item. This limits the usage of this fossil.

Vendor recipe

Five Fractured Fossils can be used to duplicate basetypes by selling five Split copies created by the fossil to a vendor to receive a non-mirrored, unidentified item.[3] Note that 5 to 1 recipe will yield a non-influenced, non-split copy, while the Item sells for much more to vendors will override vendor recipe. There is currently no known case where this is useful, as you can craft and mirror an item with the Split tag.

Item acquisition

Fractured Fossil has restrictions on where or how it can drop. Drops from completing a Humid Fissure node in Sulphur Vents biomes in the Azurite Mine.

Version history

Version Changes
3.14.0
  • Fractured Fossils now apply a Split modifier to both items, preventing further duplication. As a result, Fractured Fossils can no longer be applied to items that cannot be Split, such as Synthesised, Enchanted, Fractured or Influenced items.
3.4.3c
  • Using a Fractured Fossil to mirror an item with the "Item sells for much more to vendors" implicit modifier (see Gilded FossilGilded FossilStack Size: 10Item is overvalued by vendorsPlace in a Resonator to influence item crafting.) now generates a new vendor sell price on the Mirrored copy.
3.4.0
  • Introduced to the game.
