An Exalted Orb is a currency item that can be used to enhance a piece of rare equipment with a new random affix.

Obtaining

Exalted Orbs are rare currency items that can be acquired from slain monsters, chests, destructible containers, and strongboxes (notably from Arcanist Strongboxes). Usage

Exalted Orbs add a random explicit modifier to a rare item. They do not affect any other modifiers. If a modifier is present on the rare item before usage, that modifier cannot be added by an Exalted Orb.

Spending

Exalted Orbs are primarily used to craft rare items, with two main uses. The first is through direct use of the orb, adding a random affix to a rare item that has at least one empty affix. If possible, it is usually best to craft an unwanted modifier from the crafting bench to stop it from rolling and increase the chances of adding a desirable mod. The other use is to add high-end affixes through the crafting bench by paying a fixed amount of Exalted Orbs.

In some cases, Exalted Orbs can be used in conjunction with crafted modifiers to force particular modifiers on items. Some examples include adding +1 to Level of Socketed Gems to Bows after crafting Cannot roll Attack Modifiers, and adding +1 to All # Skill Gems on Amulets after crafting Can have up to 3 Crafted Modifiers, Cannot roll Attack Modifiers, and a final blocking mod depending on the specific gem level modifier.

Before Version 3.19.0, Exalted Orbs were the "gold standard" currency for trading high-value items between players, and it was rare for players to use them to add mods to items. This was due to their relatively low supply, and high demand in the adding of powerful meta-crafting mods to items using the crafting bench. In patch 3.19.0, the crafting recipes were changed to require Divine Orbs instead, altering the demand of both Exalted and Divine Orbs and effectively switching their values. The relatively low cost of Exalted Orbs encourages players to use them for their regular purpose.
