Fractured Fossil is the rarest and most valuable fossil type in the game, which allows players to duplicate rare items. Using this fossil on items is typically called "fracturing" an item.

It works in a somewhat similar fashion as the Fenumal Plagued Arachnid beast (referred to as "beast splitting").

Mechanics

Warning: Using a Fractured Fossil to split a map or blueprint will result in the Split tag being added to both items, preventing you from making further copies of either item unless a Mirror of KalandraMirror of KalandraStack Size: 10Creates a mirrored copy of an itemRight click this item then left click an equipable non-unique item to apply it. Mirrored copies cannot be modified. is used.

A resonator with the Fractured Fossil will reroll the mods on the original item,[1] and create a mirrored copy of the original. The fossil should not be used in place of a Mirror of KalandraMirror of KalandraStack Size: 10Creates a mirrored copy of an itemRight click this item then left click an equipable non-unique item to apply it. Mirrored copies cannot be modified. to duplicate mirror-tier items, as the original will be randomized.

Uses

Before version 3.14, fractured fossils could be used to profitably duplicate high-investment maps. The randomized original would retain Delirium orbs and Harvest-specific map enchantments, as well as Fractured mod. It was also a comparatively inexpensive way to duplicate Labyrinth Enchantments.

However, since version 3.14, using a fractured fossil on an item adds the "Split" tag to both items (similar to "Mirrored" tag), which prevents the items from being fractured again. Split items cannot be split again, and cannot have Imprints made of them or applied to them. However the item can still be mirrored using a Mirror of KalandraMirror of KalandraStack Size: 10Creates a mirrored copy of an itemRight click this item then left click an equipable non-unique item to apply it. Mirrored copies cannot be modified..

Five of them can be used to duplicate basetypes by selling five copies to a vendor to receive a non-mirrored, unidentified item. Note that 5 to 1 recipe will yield a non-influenced copy, while the Item sells for much more to vendors will override vendor recipe.

Steps

The steps are as follows:

  1. First acquire a valuable map/blueprint (it needs to be non-Mirrored, ie. without the "Mirrored" mod)
  2. Purchase a Fractured FossilFractured FossilStack Size: 10Creates a split copy

  7. Add the fossils into the resonator
  8. Right-click the resonator and click on the map/blueprint, it should generate a new mirrored map/blueprint

Item acquisition

Fractured Fossil has restrictions on where or how it can drop. Drops from completing a Humid Fissure node in Sulphur Vents biomes in the Azurite Mine.
