Lore
Yugul, "Reflection of Terror", was a Vaal scholar obsessed with the study of fear, which he believed to be an idea upon which the "bedrock" of the "great cosmos" was formed.[a] He would induce terror in children and capture their reactions in "eldritch mirrors" designs of his own creation that could "petrify fear" for further study.[b] He used this understanding of human nature and control over fear to enter the halls of Vaal leadership, and eventually scare enough Vaal into worshipping him, allowing him to ascend to godhood.[c] In the Act 8 quest Reflection of Terror, the exile encounters and kills Yugul to claim his soul and empower their pantheon.
