This article is currently a work in progress.

It has been suggested that Drop-restricted item#League-specific items be merged into this article.

Reason: Following the changes in version 3.14.0, all league-specific items were added to the core drop pool. Therefore an item being league-specific is no longer a drop restriction

League-specific items are a special group of items that can be obtained from certain divination cards and other sources in addition to their normal acquisition methods.

League-specific base items

League-specific base items were originally introduced in some temporary challenge leagues and restricted to that league mechanic. Some of these mechanics were later incorporated into the core game and have a default non-zero chance to spawn (e.g. not drop-restricted), while others are not and require either atlas passives, scarabs, or Zana crafted map mods to spawn, and others are completely unable to spawn.

The following league specific base items are not part of the core drop pool but are readily obtainable:

  • Magic and rare Talismans can be obtained in the game despite Talisman league not being added to the core game mechanic and despite there being no Zana crafted Talisman league mod. However, they can be obtained as Safehouse rewards linked to Thane Jorgin the Banished, certain divination cards, Delve rewards chests and Talisman Delve-nod, Primal IncubatorsPrimal IncubatorStack Size: 10Adds an incubated Talisman item to an equippable item

League-specific unique items

Originally, these unique items were exclusive to the temporary challenge leagues they were released in. League-specific unique item is official in-game terminology used for this subset of items.

For a list, see List of league-specific unique items.

Sources

Etymology

The term "league-specific item" was first seen in game during the closed beta test of the Awakening expansion, where it appeared on Time-Lost RelicTime-Lost Relic10League-Specific ItemTime cannot wash away that which cannot be forgotten.; however, its usage goes back as far as the first challenge leagues.[1]

League-specific items were originally unique items that could only drop or be chanced in challenge leagues.[2] With few exceptions, league-specific items were not added to the core drop pool after the conclusion of a challenge league.[a] The only way to obtain them in permanent leagues was to carry them over from a challenge league or to trade with other players who had done so.[3]

The Forsaken Masters expansion introduced Zana, whose Map DeviceMap DeviceHideout ItemCreates an object in your hideout2 Variations allowed players to add challenge league modifiers to maps when activating them with it.[4] A map area with a challenge league modifier applied to it could produce league-specific items associated with that challenge league. One popular option was applying the Nemesis modifier to a map, then using Orbs of ChanceOrb of ChanceStack Size: 20Upgrades a normal item to a random rarityRight click this item then left click a normal item to apply it. on Leather BeltsLeather BeltRequires Level 8+(25-40) to maximum Life while inside the map area in hopes of turning one into the coveted HeadhunterHeadhunter

Version history

Version Changes
3.14.0
  • The "league flag" system has been obsoleted due to changes of league-specific items becoming core. It is no longer necessary to go into a map with Zana's crafted league mod, or adding an Infused Map mod obtainable from Harvest crafting to trigger the league flag. Both variants have a hidden stat id map_set_league_category, e.g. Area contains 10 additional packs with a Rare monsterHarvestInfusedMapNemesisZana
