Catalyst

Catalysts are currency items that add quality to jewellery. Catalyst quality on jewellery improves the effect of the implicit and explicit modifiers of the specified type, depending on the modifier tags. Modifier tags can be viewed by enabling Advanced Mod Descriptions in the UI options, and then holding the Alt key (default, it matches the item highlight keybind) while mousing over the item.

A catalyst will increase the quality based on the item level of the item, giving a larger bonus to lower item levels, up to a maximum of 20%. See this table for the amount of quality added by a catalyst based on item level. Using a different type of catalyst on an item that already has quality will replace the quality type, starting again from 0%.

Catalysts are acquired as rewards from Ultimatum encounters in maps and scale with area item quantity.

The rarity of the item is no longer relevant when applying Cartographer's Chisels, Blacksmith's Whetstones, Armourer's Scraps, Glassblower's Baubles, and Catalysts to non-Unique items.
