Gladiator

The Gladiator is an Ascendancy class for Duelists.

Overview

The Gladiator takes the hybrid nature of the Duelist a step further, with a combination of speed, power, and protection. The Gladiator works well with dual wielding or one-handed weapon (including wands[1]) and shield combinations. The class offers opportunities to build around applying bleed, improving the player's blocking, and enhancing Endurance and Frenzy Charges.

Painforged is a notable Ascendancy passive skill for the Gladiator that grants additional chance to block. It also causes blocked hits to not apply any stun and doubles the damage of counterattacks.

Painforged in Ruthless mode does not interact with counterattacks and does not grant attack block chance. Instead, it grants maximum attack block chance that was removed from Reigning Veteran.

Versatile Combatant is a keystone passive skill which grants additional spell block chance based on your overcapped attack block chance, but decreases the maximum block chance for both attacks and spells.

Violent Retaliation is a notable Ascendancy passive skill for the Gladiator that makes your attack damage lucky and allows your hits to ignore the enemy's physical damage reduction if you've blocked a hit in the past 20 seconds.

Outmatch and Outlast is a notable Ascendancy passive skill for the Gladiator that gives the player a chance to gain a frenzy charge or endurance charge on kill, depending on the hand used. It also grants more physical damage at maximum frenzy charges and physical damage reduction at maximum endurance charges.

Attacks with two handed weapons, including bows, count as main hand. By default, attacks while unarmed count as main hand.[2] With Hollow Palm Technique allocated, unencumbered attacks alternate between main hand and off-hand.[3]

Blood in the Eyes is a notable Ascendancy passive skill for the Gladiator. It grants chance to apply Bleeding with attacks, causes your attacks to Maim, causes your hits to have a chance to Blind bleeding enemies, and causes enemies you've maimed to take increased physical damage.

  • Blind now requires an attack hit (instead of any hit), and has a 50% chance to apply (from 25%).
  • Maim now requires enemies to be blinded (instead of bleeding), and has a 50% chance to apply (from 100%).
  • Maim no longer applies additional damage taken.

. While these totems can cause bleeding, if they land the killing blow, enemies won't explode. But if the bleeding itself kills the enemies, they will. This is especially relevant if you are using Ancestral Bond and can't deal damage yourself.

Enemies that die from the explosion do not count as they have been killed by an active skill a player used, and therefore modifiers that support that skill do not affect killed enemies; modifiers that affect the character are still applied. This is mostly noticeable with mods to item rarity and quantity.[2]
