In Version 3.25.0, melee totems have been removed from the game.

Ancestral Protector is a totem skill that creates an Ancestor Totem which will attack enemies with melee strikes while the player stands close to it. Being near it increases the player's attack speed.
Weapon: Ancestral Protector targets single enemies at a greater range than the character's would grant. Stats that let you gain fortification in certain conditions related to attacking (e.g. on hit, on melee stun) are also inherited by the totem.
Multiple Totems: The attack speed buff does not stack when multiple totems are summoned.

Activation: The totem is active as long as the player remains within a 85 unit radius of it. Initial activation also requires line of sight with the player, but this can be broken once the totem has become active.
Note that helmet enchantments are no longer obtainable since version 3.23.0 and can only be obtained in permanent leagues as already enchanted items from before this patch.

Ancestor Totems now emerge 40% faster when first placed, have 50% more totem life, and remain active 40% further away from the owner.
Ancestral Protector's damage has been increased at all gem levels. At gem level 1, it has been increased from 60% to 80% of your weapon damage. The damage at gem level 20 has been increased from 75.2% to 133.2% of your weapon damage.
