A Blinded Rhoa

Blind (known as Blinded in status icon) is a debuff that lessens the chance to hit of the affected target by 50% and lowers the light radius to the minimum value.

Mechanics

The base duration of Blind is 4 seconds. Attacking with Resolute Technique or attacking a target which has Unwavering Stance will nullify the miss chance. Blinding a target will also reduce its effective critical strike chance by reducing its chance to succeed confirmation rolls of critical strikes.[1] Blind is not an elemental status ailment and is not affected by the Crystal Skin notable passive skill.

Calculations

<math display="" style="background-color:transparent; padding:0;"> \color[RGB]{163,141,109} \begin{align} \text{chance to hit}_{\text{as blinded attacker vs defender} } & = 0.5 \times (1 - \text{chance to evade}_{\text{defender} }) \\ \text{chance to evade}_{\text{as defender vs blinded attacker} } & = 1 - 0.5 \times (\text{chance to hit}_{\text{attacker} }) \end{align}

   </math>

Stated another way, blinding a monster will improve the player's evade chance as follows:

<math display="" style="background-color:transparent; padding:0;"> \color[RGB]{163,141,109} \begin{align} \text{NewEvadeChance} & = (1 + \text{OldEvadeChance})/ 2 \end{align}

   </math>

Conversely, becoming blinded will worsen the player's chance of hitting a monster:

<math display="" style="background-color:transparent; padding:0;"> \color[RGB]{163,141,109} \begin{align} \text{NewHitChance} & = \text{OldHitChance} /2 \end{align}

   </math>

For example, if you normally have a 35% chance to evade a monster attack, blinding that monster will improve evasion as shown:

<math display="" style="background-color:transparent; padding:0;"> \color[RGB]{163,141,109} \begin{align} \text{chance to evade} & = 1 - 0.5 \times (1 - 0.35) \\ & = 67.5% \end{align}

   </math>

In addition, the attacker's effective critical strike chance is also reduced:

<math display="" style="background-color:transparent; padding:0;"> \color[RGB]{163,141,109} \begin{align} \text{Attacker's effective critical strike chance} = \text{Attacker's critical strike chance} \times \text{Attacker's chance to hit} \end{align}

   </math>

Using the values from the previous example, if the attacker has a 20% critical strike chance then its effective critical strike chance can be calculated as follows

<math display="" style="background-color:transparent; padding:0;"> \color[RGB]{163,141,109} \begin{align} \text{effective critical strike chance}_{\text{not blinded} } & = 20% \times (1 - 35%) \\ & = 13% \\ \text{effective critical strike chance}_{\text{blinded} } & = 20% \times (1 - 67.5%) \\ & = 6.5% \end{align}

   </math>
