All skeletons wield an exact copy of the The Iron Mass. Sources that cause The Iron Mass to trigger damage, will trigger on the skeletons' as well. For example The Hidden Blade in a character's offhand slot will trigger Unseen Strike on the character and their skeletons.

Summon Skeletons normally have their own weapon with .8 attacks per second that gains base damage as they level up. A level 20 skeleton has 1,012 average damage per hit.
Summon Skeletons normally has 0.8 attacks time (1.25 APS), and gains base damage as they level up.

The Iron Mass removes the skeletons' attack speed and base weapon damage from leveling up the gem and replaces it with its own damage and attack speed. An Iron Mass with maximum attack speed and damage rolls has 1.53 attacks per second and 195 average damage per hit.
The Iron Mass overrides the skeletons' base damage, base attack speed, and base crit chance. An Iron Mass with maximum attack speed and damage rolls and 30 quality has 1.53 attacks per second and 201.5 average damage per hit. This results in 308.3 DPS. This value does not scale with Skeleton level.

A level 20 skeletons does (1,012 X .8) = 810 DPS
A level 20 skeletons does 1021.6 DPS by default.

A perfect rolled hidden blade does (195 X 3) = 585 (585 X 1.53) = 895 (Note: Can go higher with corrupted modifiers.)
A perfect rolled The Iron Mass with 30 quality does (308.3 X 3) = 924.9 DPS counting the triple damage. (Note: Can go higher with corrupted modifiers and some Enchantments.) The other stats on this weapon can also contribute in skyrocketing the damage up.

Scaling Damage
Damage Effectiveness
Skeleton damage normally scales with X 1.5 damage and X .8 attack speed. (1.5 X .8) = 120% of raw damage scaling.

Skeletons with The Iron Mass have X 3 = damage and X 1.53 attack speed.  (3 X 1.53) = 459% of raw damage scaling.
By default, Skeletons have 50% more added damage with 1.25 APS, or a 120% Added Damage Effectiveness.

459 / 120 = 3.825
For Skeletons with The Iron Mass, factoring in the 1.53 APS, as well as the 50% more added damage, they now have 229% Added Damage Effectiveness, or 687% Added Damage Effectiveness if you include triple damage.

The Iron Mass gives nearly 4 times the damage per second from flat added damage and the base weapon damage is lower than skeleton damage from the gem at level 22. These 2 factors make added flat damage give higher damage per second than a skeleton build that doesn't use The Iron Mass.
Essentially, Skeletons level 20 or above will have slightly more base DPS, but The Iron Mass can easily outscale with some sources of added damage.

A level 20 skeletons does 1021.6 DPS by default.
