Ultimatum league was a challenge league. It launched on April 16, 2021 as part of Path of Exile: Ultimatum in version 3.14.0. The league ended on July 19, 2021.

In this Vaal-themed league, the Trialmaster offers the Trials of Chaos, where you must battle against waves of monsters in an enclosed area with a dangerous modifier added to earn a reward. With each win, you can either claim your prize or start a new wave with an additional modifier added to it for bigger and better rewards, but if you lose, all the rewards you've obtained are lost.

After the Leagues ended, Ultimatum was not added to the core game and all related items are currently unobtainable. Ultimatum was scheduled to become a core mechanic, however prior to the Version 3.18.0 release it was clarified that Ultimatum would return in a different way, with delays. The Trialmaster and Ultimatum-exclusive uniques were temporarily reintroduced in Version 3.19.0 through The Tower of OrdealsThe Tower of Ordeals

League mechanic

In every area of the game, the player encounter the Trialmaster who offers the Trials of Chaos, offering greater rewards for completing certain tasks in a small arena at the risk of losing it all.

Ladders

In Ultimatum league, players could choose to enable either of these optional game modes:

• Hardcore (HC)
• Solo Self-Found (SSF)

This means that there were four distinct ladders for Ultimatum league:

From the 19th challenge onwards and for every third challenge after that, you will receive pieces of the Ultimatum Totem Pole decoration to display in your hideout. The Totem Pole permanently showcases how many of the Ultimatum challenges you completed during the league.
