Hungry Corpse is a type of zombie found in The Twilight Strand (Act 1). The Hungry Corpse is the first monster encountered in Path of Exile - its mechanics serve as a tutorial for the player.
Mechanics
The Hungry Corpse is encountered in the starting area of The Twilight Strand (Act 1), lying as an inanimate corpse. During the Dying Exile's dialogue, if the character has a weapon equipped, the Hungry Corpse will rise and attack the Dying Exile, interrupting their dialogue and killing them.
Once killed, the Hungry Corpse is guaranteed to drop a level 1 class-dependant skill gem. If the character exits the game and re-enters The Twilight Strand (Act 1) after having killed the Hungry Corpse, it and the Dying Exile will appear again. The Hungry Corpse can drop its gem again.
