Freeze
Freeze is an elemental status ailment associated with cold that completely prevents the affected target from moving, attacking, or using any skills. It is still possible for player characters to use flasks while frozen.
Mechanics
A hit of damage that has a chance to freeze is capable of inflicting freeze. Critical strikes inherently have a 100% chance to freeze. By default, only cold damage is able to inflict freeze, but certain equipment such as The Three DragonsThe Three Dragons

Base freeze duration is 60 milliseconds for every 1% of the target's maximum life (before party scaling) dealt by Cold damage, up to a maximum of 50%. If the duration would be below 0.3 seconds, the freeze effect is not applied.[1] Freeze duration can be lengthened by effects such as the Freeze Duration nodes on the passive tree or the Module Error: Too many skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Temporal Chains". When a target is frozen, it is also chilled for the entire freeze duration, plus an additional 300 ms.[citation needed]
Non-unique enemies that are killed while frozen shatter into pieces. They will still leave loot, but most other on-death effects are suppressed, including:
- Leaving a corpse. This prevents raising or exploding the corpse. Furthermore, there is no corpse to transfer status ailments with Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Elemental Proliferation".
- Taking on a secondary form, such as the Shield Crab.
- Spines shot by the Porcupine Goliath.
These on-death effects are not suppressed:
- Spawning enemies, such as with Fracturing enemies[citation needed].
- On-death explosions, such as Volatile Blood[citation needed].
- Zombies spreading tar[citation needed].
Mechanically, Freeze slows the character's animation speed by 100%. As a result, an Acceleration Shrine and Unstoppable can counteract the effects of Freeze.
