Mana is spent to activate skills, and is shown on the bottom right of the screen as a blue orb. It recovers slowly over time, but can be refilled quickly with flasks.
Every class starts with 40 Mana, and gains +4 per level to reach 436 base mana at level 100. Every two points of Intelligence grants +1 mana. All classes have a base mana regeneration rate of 1.75% of their maximum mana per second, or equivalently 105% per minute.[1]
Additional mana and mana regeneration can be gained from high Intelligence, passive skills, modifiers on equipment, the aura Module Error: Too many skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Clarity". Please choose only one of the following ids:
ClarityRoyale - +(0-0.9) metres to radius, You and nearby Allies Regenerate (3-19.5) Mana per second (page)
Clarity - +(0-1.9) metres to radius, You and nearby Allies Regenerate (2.9-33) Mana per second (page), various unique items, and the Act 2 quest Deal with the Bandits in Normal. Clarity is important for high mana regen because it gives a flat "mana gained per second" bonus that is increased by all Mana Regeneration Rate +% modifiers.[2]
Passives
Many passive skill nodes grant additional mana or a combination of bonuses including mana, mana regeneration, reduced mana cost, reduced mana reserved on auras, mana leech, and mana gained on kill. Some passives will increase the amount of Mana regained from Flasks.
The Blood Magic Keystone removes Mana, causing you to pay for skills with your life. Eldritch Battery converts all of your energy shield into extra mana.
Mana
In the case of Eldritch Battery, maximum mana is increased by an amount equal to total Energy Shield. In exchange, Energy Shield is reduced to 0.
Mana is a small passive skill that grants increased maximum mana.

Energy Shield protects Mana instead of Life
50% less Energy Shield Recharge Rate [1]
Eldritch Battery (often referred to as EB) is a keystone passive skill that makes energy shield protect mana instead of life.

The player still pays a mana cost, and can modify that cost with mana cost modifiers. - Energy shield recharge is not interrupted by energy shield spent to pay costs. Unless interrupted by damage to mana or energy shield, energy shield will continually recharge.[3][4]

These passives reduce the mana cost of skills by a percentage. However, they do not reduce the amount of mana reserved by Auras and skills like Tempest Shield, unlike the Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Reduced Mana" support gem.

Mana Leech
These passives add mana leech to attacks as a percentage of physical damage dealt.
The recovery rate of mana gained from mana leech is applied at 12.5% of maximum mana per second. If you have 1000 maximum mana, and leech 500 mana with a single attack, it will take four seconds for that mana to be applied to your current mana. You always get the full amount of mana leeched, it is only the rate at which it regenerates that is "capped" - if you leech a large amount of mana during a battle, you may find that the regeneration continues long after the battle is over. Similar to flasks, the regeneration from leech will stop if you reach maximum mana.

Many passive skill clusters offered the same thing as other clusters, with the only differences being the location on the tree and the number of passive skills in the cluster. We also wanted to reduce the power of some clusters that were overly efficient, and increase the power of clusters that were inefficient.

10% more maximum Life
Skills Cost Life instead of Mana
Skills Reserve Life instead of Mana [1]
Blood Magic (often referred to as BM) is a keystone passive skill that converts all mana cost and reservation to use life instead. It also gives you more maximum life and removes your mana.
Mechanics
Skills that reserve mana will reserve life and skills that cost mana will cost life instead. Mods that affect mana cost and mana reservation such as X% increased/reduced Mana Cost of Skills, + X to Total Mana Cost of Skills and X% increased/reduced Mana Reservation Efficiency of Skills have no effect on the life cost and life reservation of skills. It is not possible to commit suicide through Blood Magic.
If taken with Eldritch Battery, your energy shield will continue to protect mana but will not be spent.
While you have Blood Magic, you are neither at full mana nor low mana.[1]
Taking this keystone along with Sanguimancy from Warlock of the Mists will provide the 50% increased Life Reservation Efficiency of Skills stat, but otherwise impart no additional benefit.
Location
Blood Magic is located in the bottom left corner of the tree.
