The King of the Mists is the major antagonist of Affliction league and the Viridian Wildwood. He is also a boss associated with Rituals.

Entry

The King in the Mist's boss arena, Crux of Nothingness, can be accessed by using An Audience With The KingAn Audience With The KingOn the edge of existence,
he watches with ire.
Open a portal to the Crux of Nothingness by using this item in a personal Map Device. Can only be used once.
on the map device, which can appear as a reward from Ritual encounters.

Mechanics

Phase 1

The battle begins in a circular arena with three raised platforms that can be accessed using walkways. A large Ritual altar stands in the center of the arena, and three smaller "Mystic Fetish" altars on the platforms.

  • Vine Cascade - Thorngrip!/Lonnsaigh! - Creating a cascade of phys+chaos conversion tendrils.
  • Vine Nova - Invasive growth!/Grow!/Sprout!/Fás! - Raises his staff before slamming it, creating an Ice NovaIce NovaSpell, AoE, Cold, Nova

  • Teleport - Nothingness approaches!/Bid the darkness! - Teleports to a platform, activating a Mystic Fetish which causes players to gain stacks of Portent Vapors, increasing damage taken and causes the following arena hazards:
    • Exploding Toads - Creates a patch of Viscous Swamp, spawning purple toads that hop towards the player before exploding, dealing chaos damage.
    • Blood Ritual - Creates large red patches of boiling blood that inflict physical damage over time.
    • Caustic Ground - Creates small green patches of Caustic Ground.
    • Soulrend - Central ritual altar fires slow moving purple SoulrendSoulrendChaos, Spell, AoE, Duration, Projectile

  • Maze Teleport - The border of my realm grows closer.../A sliver of what my home feels like. - Teleports players to a maze, starting phase 2.

Phase 2

The player is teleported to a very large arena covered in a maze of thick vines which cannot be crossed. The arena fills with Branching Affliction, a stacking debuff that deals physical and chaos damage over time. Follow the Sacred Wisps' path towards the large purple portal back to the arena.

Phase 3

The player is returned to the arena from phase 1, where the King in the Mists' body disintegrates and emerges as a large treant. The platforms are now covered in purple fire.
