Note the purple icon below the flavour text and the purple glow on the item's art.
Using Hinekora's Lock on an item allows the player to preview the outcome of the next currency item applied to it by hovering the cursor over the item with the currency selected. Using a different currency will not cause that previewed outcome to occur, and remove the effects of Hinekora's Lock. Incubators being applied do not remove the previewed state.
Hinekora's Lock does not work with the Crafting Bench, the Horticrafting Station, beastcrafting, recombinators (both Sentinel and Settlers league versions), or non-crafting Betrayal Safehouse benches. However, crafting a modifier on the item will remove its previewed state.[1]
Items in the previewed state adds a small icon to the item box and adds a purple glow effect to the item's 2D art. The previewed state of the item persists when traded.

↑Grinding Gear Games had originally suggested that Hinekora's Lock would not be added to the core game after Ancestor league ended.[2] After the release of version 3.23.0, players soon discovered that Hinekora's Lock was added to the core drop pool.[3] This change did not appear in the patch notes.
