A Jeweller's Orb is a currency item that can be used to re-roll the number of sockets on a weapon or piece of armour. The maximum number of sockets is limited by the type of equipment and its item level.

Mechanics

Jeweller's Orbs are primarily used to randomly change the number of sockets an item, subject to the limitations enforced by the item's item level. If an item has some quality, each 1% quality improves the result by 1%. The sockets of an item reforged by a Jeweller's Orb also come with random links and colors. A Jeweller's orb will always roll a different number of sockets than the item had originally, but will not reroll an item with maximum sockets.

In general the exact chances of obtaining a given number of sockets is unknown, but in the case of weapons the following is known:

Crafting bench

When going for 6 sockets on body armours and two-handed weapons, if one is risk-averse and wants to avoid bad luck, one can instead use the Crafting Bench recipe to craft 6 sockets, with the caveat that it comes at a slightly higher average cost.

Using the Bench to craft sockets overrides the item level socket restrictions (i.e. it is possible to craft 6 sockets on an item level 1 body armour).

Version history

In previous version of Path of Exile, Jeweller's Orb was spelled with one L: "Jeweler's Orb".

2.2.0	When you use an Orb of Fusing or a Jeweller's Orb on an item, the item's quality is no longer consumed. The way that quality affects the result has also been changed. Each 1% quality improves the result by 1%. This makes the Fusing process 20% easier on 20% quality items, for example.
1.0.0	You now can't use an Orb of Fusing on a fully linked item or a Jeweller's Orb on a fully socketed item.
