Corruption Altar

Within the Locus of Corruption, the player can interact with the Corruption Altar in the center of the room to access a device that can be used to corrupt a single item, with potentially powerful or destructive results. This works somewhat like a Vaal OrbVaal OrbStack Size: 20Corrupts an item, modifying it unpredictablyRight click this item then left click an item to corrupt it. Corrupted items cannot be modified again. but has different outcomes. The types of items that can be corrupted this way include weapons, armour, jewellery, quivers and jewels. The device can only be used on an item that is not already corrupted.

In addition to corrupting the item, one of four possible outcomes will be applied to it. Each has an equal chance of occurring.[1]

  • The item may gain two corruption implicit modifiers. These will replace any implicit modifiers already on the item.
    • This outcome is often referred to by players as "double corrupting" the item.[2][3][4]
    • If the item being corrupted is a normal Sacrificial GarbSacrificial GarbArmour: (329-378)

CorruptedDestined for sacrifice, they were dressed in garments that blurred the lines between this world and the next.
  • The item may have the color of all of its sockets become white.
    • This outcome may occur even if the item has no sockets, in which case it will have no effect.[2][6]
  • The item may become an influenced rare item of the same base type, with random modifiers.
    • This is usually considered a bad outcome when a valuable item is being corrupted, since the item will have all of its affixes rerolled. This is referred to by players as "bricking" the item.[2][7][4]
    • Like regular corruption, this outcome respects metamods (Prefixes Cannot Be Changed or Suffixes Cannot Be Changed).[8]
  • The item may be destroyed completely. It will cease to exist.

Version history

Version Changes
  • Many crafting modifiers that were obtained from Delve, Prophecy and Incursion are now obtained in maps, including Meta Crafting Modifiers being found in unique maps.
  • Previously, the temple's boss, the Omnitect, dropped random rare items with special Incursion modifiers on them. Now, it also drops rare items with Incursion modifiers based around the themes of the rooms your temple contains, and has a higher chance to drop Vials related to that room. Having higher tier rooms also causes more rare items to drop.
    • (via datamine) Corruption Chamber and its higher tiers rooms now causes Vial of SacrificeVial of SacrificeStack Size: 10Festivities of blood. Bleeding hearts and screaming lungs.Sacrifice this item on the Altar of Sacrifice along with Sacrificial Heart to transform it. more chance to drop.
