Orb of Horizons is a currency item that can be used to reforge a map into another map of the same tier.
Mechanics
This orb will transform a map item into another map item of the same tier. Any rarity (except unique) and quality the map had will be retained, but its base item type and explicit modifiers (in the case of magic or higher rarity) will be rerolled. An Orb of Horizons does not obey the player's Atlas of Worlds rules, which means that the resulting map may not be unlocked yet.
Any implicit modifiers and enchantments (anointments, delirium) on the map will be retained when an Orb of Horizon is used on it. This includes Shaper and Elder influences. Using an Orb of Horizon will not change which Elder Guardian or Conquerors' Citadel (which boss you fight) is on the map. However, using the orb on Shaper Guardians map will rotate the map to another Shaper Guardian Map, as Shaper Guardian boss fights are based on the map base.
Currently, the orb only reroll map into map that naturally in that tier. For example, the lowest tier of Scriptorium MapScriptorium MapMap Level: 73
Map Tier: 6
Guild Character: ‡Knowledge balanced atop a vast pit. Hold on, or perish in the darkness of ignorance.Travel to this Map by using it in a personal Map Device. Maps can only be used once. and Sepulchre MapSepulchre MapMap Level: 73
Map Tier: 6
Guild Character: ŸLives come and go. Only bones and dust remain.Travel to this Map by using it in a personal Map Device. Maps can only be used once. are T6 (as of 3.12 patch). Thus, rerolling any T6 map will result in either Scriptorium or Sepulchre. GGG has confirmed it is intended and not a bug.[1]
Item acquisition
Orb of Horizons can drop anywhere. Drops from Harbingers or Harbinger-related rewards, or from map currency rewards.

Horizon Orbs now follow the same drop rules as Maps, as they are consumed proportionally to Endgame Maps. They do not drop more with additional party members present, nor do they scale with bonuses to Item Quantity on the player (not that you can get it anymore outside of Standard Leagues). The intention is to keep the number of these items dropping always proportional to the number of Map items dropping. |
