Brittle is an Elemental Ailment associated with Cold. Hits against brittle enemies have up to +6% chance to critically strike afflicted enemies, based on the Cold Damage of the Hit that inflicted this ailment, for 4 seconds.

Brittle's magnitude is given by the formula:

By transforming the equation above, the damage needed to inflict brittle of the desired magnitude is given by the formula:

Brittle with a base effect lower than 1% is discarded. Brittle inflicted through means other than hit damage has a base effect of +2%.

3.21.1	Elemental Ailments other than Freeze are no longer discarded if their duration is lower than 300ms.
3.19.0	The Brittle Ailment now grants up to +6% chance to critically strike afflicted enemies (previously +15%) and now has a default value of +2% (previously +5%). Fixed an issue where the effects of Brittle and Sapped ground were not affected by Ailment effect.
3.10.0	Scorch and Brittle (alternate ailments for Fire and Cold damage respectively) have both had their maximum effects raised. Brittle now increases the chance to critically strike an afflicted enemy by up to 15% (from 10%). Scorch, Brittle and Sap now all have a base duration of 4 seconds (from 2).
3.9.0	We've added an Ailment Threshold to monsters. In the great majority of cases, the Ailment Threshold matches the monster's Maximum Life. It primarily differs for especially high-life monsters (such as The Shaper), where the threshold is reduced to allow ailments to be applied with hits that wouldn't ordinarily reach the required Life thresholds. The alternate ailments Sap, Scorch and Brittle have a slightly different calculation as they have lower caps on their magnitudes.
3.6.0	Now grants up to +10% chance to critically strike afflicted enemies. This chance is further increased by sources of increased Critical Strike Chance, whereas previously, as the result of a bug, it was not.
3.5.0	Introduced to the game. Updated the reminder text for Ailments to include the 3 new Ailments. (Stated in patch preview) Hits have up to +20% Critical Strike Chance against Brittle Enemies, based on the Cold Damage of the Hit which inflicted Brittle, for 2 seconds.
