The Hierophant is an Ascendancy class for Templars.
Overview
The Hierophant deals and takes damage in unconventional methods rather than in a straightforward way. Hierophants can utilize totems effectively, and have the ability to summon 2 additional totems, at the cost of less damage per totem. They also work well with builds that utilize high amounts of Mana by converting it into defensive bonuses. Templars who rely on multiple skills can take Illuminated Devotion to enhance multiple skills with one of three powerful effects.

Transfiguration of Mind [1]
Divine Guidance is a notable Ascendancy passive skill for the Hierophant that grants increased maximum mana and causes the character's mana to absorb a portion of the damage dealt to life. It also grants you "Transfiguration of Mind", causing increases and reduction to maximum mana to also apply to damage at 30% of their value.
Mechanics
As with other Mana before Life effects, this skill will deduct 10% of the damage that would be inflicted on the character's life is deducted from mana instead. If the character has insufficient mana, then the remainder of the damage will be taken from life. Damage dealt to energy shields will not be deducted from mana.
See Mind Over Matter for more details on the mechanic.

25% increased Mana Reservation Efficiency of Skills
50% less Mana Cost of Skills
1% increased Area of Effect per 50 Unreserved Maximum Mana, up to 100% [1]
Sanctuary of Thought is a notable Ascendancy passive skill for the Hierophant that grants less mana cost to skills and increased mana reservation efficiency, and additional maximum energy shield equal to a percentage of the user's maximum mana. It also grants increased area of effect based on the amount of your maximum mana.
Mechanics
The extra energy shield granted by Sanctuary of Thought behaves like a conversion, and is therefore affected by both modifiers to mana and maximum energy shield.[1] With no "more" modifiers, the total additional energy shield granted is given by
Additional Energy Shield = Base Mana * ( 0.20 ) * (1 + % increased maximum Mana + % increased maximum Energy Shield )
Modifiers like more maximum Energy Shield and more maximum Mana apply multiplicatively as usual.
Ruthless mode
25% less Mana Cost of Skills
Sanctuary of Thought in Ruthless mode does not grant mana reservation efficiency or AOE based on mana and has a lower mana cost reduction.
