Barkhul is the un-skippable area boss of the Daresso's Dream in Act 4.

It is not directly part of the quest The King of Desire. However, since killing Barkhul is required to access the Grand Arena area instance, Barkhul is sort of part of the quest.

Lore

The internal use monster type of this monster is "Viking" (and in turn has the tags "demon", "humanoid", "gladiator", etc.), but the design of the monster (a hostile human), resembles a gladiator. The dialogue of Daresso right after killing Barkhul, also suggests that Barkhul is a gladiator. (An adequate performance, challenger, if a little messy. Yet Barkhul and his stinking flock were simply an audition. Let us see how you fare in the Grand Arena of Theopolis!)
