Righteous Fire is a spell that applies a buff on the player, rapidly burning themself and nearby enemies. It also increases the player's spell damage.

Skill functions and interactions

  • Life Degeneration Effect: While this skill is active, the player and surrounding enemies will take fire degeneration damage (damage over time). This damage can be mitigated with fire resistance for both the player and surrounding enemies. Righteous Fire will damage energy shield and keep it from recharging while the skill is active, but it can still regenerate if the player has life regeneration and the Zealot's Oath keystone or any other sources of energy shield regeneration.
  • Spell block and spell dodge: Keystones, passives, and item mods meant to avoid or block spell damage will not work on Righteous Fire's degeneration damage.
  • Chaos Inoculation: Characters with only 1 life due to Chaos Inoculation cannot inflict damage with Righteous Fire's degeneration because Righteous Fire will stop instantly upon activation.
  • The effect can be ended prematurely by any effect which removes burning, such as flasks with the "dousing" suffix.
  • Spell Damage: Righteous Fire provides a large bonus to spell damage during its effect. Note that this is more damage stat, meaning it is a multiplier to overall damage.
  • Damage stats: The following stats apply to the damage Righteous Fire deals to enemies: Fire damage, burning damage, damage over time, area damage, and generic damage. These stats do not apply to the self-inflicted damage from Righteous Fire.
  • Spell Totem: When linked with the support gem Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Spell Totem Support", burning damage is based off of the totem's life/energy shield pool rather than the caster. Burning Damage is inflicted instead upon the totem as well. Spell totem also allows use of Swift Affliction and Efficacy Support, which are not supported when self-cast due to the lack of a duration tag.
  • Emberwake: The less Burning Damage stat on Emberwake will not reduce the self-inflicted burning damage.
  • Ancestral Bond: It is possible to use Righteous Fire with Ancestral Bond keystone. Both player and nearby monters will burn but only player will take damage, monters will burn for 0 damage.
  • Vaal Discipline: Righteous Fire interacts with Vaal Discipline the same way as any other damage source.
  • Conditional Modifiers: Damage Over Time does not interact with modifiers that rely on the status of an enemy.[1] Two notable examples of this are Singularity's "hindered enemies" [2]and the Chieftain node Ngamahu Flame's Advance "burning enemies".[3]

Sustaining Righteous Fire

To sustain the degeneration damage Fire Resistance and Life Regeneration are needed. Depending on the player's resistance, less regeneration is needed to break even. The base formula is:

burnDegen = (life*burnLife + ES*BurnES) * (1 - fireRes) * (1 + dmgTaken)

where life, ES and fireRes is the characters maximum life, maximum energy shield and fire resistance. burnLife and burnES is the percent of life and energy shield that Righteous fire burns for and dmgTaken is the sum of all Damage taken stats, for example Module Error: Too many skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Vulnerability". Please choose only one of the following ids:
