Spellslinger Support is a support gem that causes the linked spell to be triggered when the user fires a projectile from their equipped wand and adds the wand's damage to the spell. The linked spell reserves mana while active.
This skill can be triggered when using the basic attack with a wand equipped, or while using a wand-based skill with a wand equipped. The specific details of how this very interesting support gem are as follows, which you will need to understand in order to make maximum use of it:
You link it to one or more active spell gems like a standard support gem. Those spells become unavailable for normal use.
You have to trigger the Spellslinger effect as you would a mana-reserving buff like an Aura. For each active spell linked to it you will reserve 20% mana; if you don't have enough available the Spellslinger ability will not be available.
With the Spellslinger effect active, if you fire a wand projectile EVERY SPELL LINKED TO IT FIRES SIMULTANEOUSLY, even if they are duplicates of the same one, without their standard mana-on-use cost.
The Spellslinger effect has its own 0.5 second Cooldown period by default. Active skills with their own cooldown period that is longer than this (such as Cold Snap) will use their own cooldown, and your wand will just fire its normal projectiles during this time. For zero cooldown skills with a Casting Time (like Ice Spear or Freezing Pulse), they instead inherit the 0.5 second cooldown of Spellslinger; even if you can fire your wand faster than every 0.5 seconds, the linked spells will not fire until Spellslinger's cooldown is done and the wand will just fire normal shots. One important thing to note, the various buffs to standard Attack/Cast speed have ZERO effect on Cooldown.
The ability to have multiple spells fire simultaneously in one giant megaburst is definitely powerful, but the Mana reserve amount of this can get extreme. Very carefully plan out your build if you want to try doing this.
