Bane is a skill gem that applies a debuff to enemies in an area, which deals ChaosDamage over Time. Linked Hex are also applied to those enemies. The debuff deals more damage and lasts longer for each curse applied this way. Bane does not count toward the curse limit, but the curses it applies do.
Curse effect: Bane inherently has a Applied Curses have 25% less Effect/25% less Effect of Supported Curses that affects all curses triggered by Bane. Due to technical limitations, this stat appears twice on the wiki (as the infobox is showing the gem text of both Bane the active skill and the hidden Bane Support), but only applies once (25% less). Similarly, the quality effect (20% increased) also only applies once.
Note that less is multiplicative to increased effect from the gem quality.
Triggering:HexCurse skill gems linked with Bane are not directly usable (like other triggering methods). Triggering Bane however will not trigger any linked curses, since any skill linked with multiple triggers are disabled. Instead the curse skill will trigger alone in sequence as you would expect when linking multiple skills to a single trigger. Bane has no interaction with Triggerbots.
Curses applied by Bane are not actually "triggered". Costs of linked curses are ignored; only the cost of the Bane gem itself is used. Support gems supporting only the linked hexes will not apply.
Damage bonus: Bane's damage bonus per curse applied is additive with itself. For example, a level 20 Bane linked with two curse will deal 84% more Damage. Bane only gains the damage bonus from linked curses. Vixen's Entrapment will not trigger Bane even it is socketed inside the gloves due to lack of gem tag. But at the same time one hex curse cannot have two triggers, so that socketing Bane with Hex curse in the Vixen's Entrapment will disable all hex curse gems to be triggered.

Note that helmet enchantments are no longer obtainable since version 3.23.0 and can only be obtained in permanent leagues as already enchanted items from before this patch.
Alternate quality gems, labyrinth helmet enchantments and unique threshold jewels are all systems that were trying to subtly modify the behaviour of skills. With this expansion these have been combined into a new system called Transfigured Gems that allows us to fully achieve the goal of these three systems, and then some.
Quality now causes Applied Curses to have 0-20% increased Effect (previously 0-10%).
Anomalous, Divergent and Phantasmal Quality Gems have been removed from the game. Existing alternate Quality Gems now have the base Quality effect found on the respective Gem.
The Eternal Labyrinth Helmet Enchantment that grants increased Effect of Curses applied by Bane now has a value of 10% (previously 15%). The Merciless version of this Enchantment can no longer be obtained, though existing versions are unaffected.
