Chaos Orb is a currency item that can be used to re-roll the random modifiers on a piece of rare equipment. It is one of the three orbs most commonly used as currency to exchange items between players, the other two being Divine OrbsDivine OrbStack Size: 20Randomises the values of the random modifiers on an itemRight click this item then left click a magic, rare or unique item to apply it. and Mirror of KalandraMirror of KalandraStack Size: 10Creates a mirrored copy of an itemRight click this item then left click an equipable non-unique item to apply it. Mirrored copies cannot be modified., both of much higher value.
Mechanics
Chaos Orbs are useful in crafting, as they reroll all modifiers (and the number of modifiers) on a rare item. This makes for unpredictable results, so getting a specific modifier is not easy. Using multiple Chaos Orbs on a piece of equipment in the hopes of getting at least a few good modifiers is called 'Chaos spamming'.
These orbs also play an important role in trading. They are the "silver standard" in the player-driven economy and are often used to buy low to mid tier items. (See Guide:Currency creation and trading.)
Chaos Orbs are also spent on map device crafting options and rerolling Tier 17 maps.
Item acquisition
Chaos Orb can drop anywhere.
