The Reaper's presence weakens your other minions, and it will consume them to temporarily empower and heal itself. Summon Reaper is a minion spell.

Skill functions and interactions

The Consume skill kills one minion, recovers 50% of the Reaper's life and applies a buff to the Reaper for a base duration of 6 seconds.The buff grants multiple effects: [1]

  • 40% increased attack speed
  • 40% increased movement speed
  • 30% increased Area of Effect
  • 10% increased character size

The Reaper has multiple instances of the skill which its AI uses in different circumstances:

  • The version it frequently uses because it's hurt has a 6-second cooldown.
  • The version it infrequently uses because it just felt like it (and didn't already have the buff) has a 25 second cooldown.

The Reaper does not separately decide that it's hungry and then chose a minion. Each time it picks an action, it evaluates all possible actions and picks one. For each of your other minions it can see, there are two possible actions involving eating that minion which will be weighed against other possible actions (similarly for each enemy, there are actions that could attack that enemy, and there are several more possible actions for attacking which are limited only to its current aggro target if it has one).

  • Eating a minion to heal has a high weighting, but is ignored if the reaper has higher than 75% life or already has the buff from eating a minion.
  • Eating a minion just for the buff has a lower weighting, but is ignored if the reaper already has the buff or there are no enemies around that minion (so it won't move away from the enemies to eat a far-away minion).

There are no variations in weighting based on minion type, etc, but the Reaper cannot eat "immortal" minions which can't be damaged, such as skitterbots, as they're invalid targets for the eating action, and cannot eat untargetable minions like Summon Raging Spirit because they can't be targeted.[2] Phantasms and Animate GuardianAnimate GuardianSpell, Minion, Physical

Version history

Version Changes
  • The damage and life scaling values for minions have been adjusted. Generally speaking, minion life and damage is unchanged in the very early game, roughly 30% lower in mid acts, roughly 20% lower at level 20 of the minion skill, and roughly 10% lower at level 30 of the minion skill.
  • Minions no longer have hidden penalties to Bleeding, Ignite, and Poison damage. Summon Reaper no longer has a hidden bonus to Bleeding damage that counteracted this penalty. As a result, minions now deal approximately twice as much Poison damage, three and a half times as much Ignite damage, and seven times as much Bleeding damage.
  • The buff granted when consuming a Minion no longer grants 40% increased Damage. It now grants 40% increased Attack Speed (previously 20%), 40% increased Movement Speed (previously 20%) and also now grants 30% increased Area of Effect.
  • The reaper's dash slash attack now has an Added Damage Effectiveness of 150% (previously 250%).
  • Fixed a bug where summoned Reapers would teleport when the level of the Summon Reaper Skill Gem changes.
  • Fixed a bug where the Summoned Reaper could not destroy pots with some of their attacks.
  • Fixed a bug where the Summoned Reaper’s two consume skills shared a cooldown.
  • Fixed a bug with the Summon Reaper skill which allowed for a second separate Skill Gem with Supports to command the Reaper.
  • The cast time for Summon Reaper is now 0.6 seconds (previously 1 second).
  • Lowered the damage penalty on Bleeding for the Summoned Reaper, overall this means they have approximately 114% more Bleeding damage than before.
  • Summon Reaper has been added to the game.
