Spectral Shield Throw is an attack skill performed with a shield. The user throws a single shield projectile forward, which releases secondary shard projectiles in random directions when it hits an enemy or terrain. Unlike most attack skills, Spectral Shield Throw deals offhand damage with a shield.

Mechanics and interactions

Spectral Shield Throw has two types of projectiles: shields and shards. Using the skill causes the player to throw one shield projectile forward. Every time it collides with an enemy or terrain, it produces a set of secondary shard projectiles. Note: secondary shard projectiles created by colliding with terrain do not appear to deal damage, likely due to a bug (3.23).[1]

Projectile modifiers

  • Additional projectiles do not apply to the shield projectile, only to shard projectiles.
  • Projectile speed modifiers will apply to both shield and shard projectiles. Because the shards have a limited lifetime, increasing projectile speed will allow them to travel farther, similar to Ethereal KnivesEthereal KnivesSpell, Projectile, Physical

  • The shield projectile can Split, Fork, Chain, and Return, but not Pierce.
    • Per standard projectile behavior, each enemy can only be hit by a maximum of one outgoing and one returning shield projectile per attack.
  • Secondary shard projectiles can Pierce or Chain, but cannot Split, Fork, or Return.
    • Each enemy can be hit once by each set of secondary projectiles, similar to Tornado ShotTornado ShotAttack, Projectile, Bow

Damage modifiers

Spectral Shield Throw gains base damage from the skill gem, and additional added damage depending on stats on the equipped shield. The Added Physical Damage per 15 Armour or Evasion Rating on Shield modifier checks local values on the shield; it is unaffected by #% increased Defences from Equipped Shield.
