Dying Exile is an NPC found in The Twilight Strand (Act 1). Dying Exile is the first NPC encountered in Path of Exile.

Mechanics

Dying Exile is encountered only in the starting area of The Twilight Strand (Act 1), lying on a log. If their dialogue is triggered by a character with no equipped weapon, their dialogue will suggest to the character to equip one. If the character has an equipped weapon and triggers the Dying Exile's dialogue or after a certain duration, the corpse next to them will reanimate as the Hungry Corpse and kill them. This will always interrupt the Dying Exile's dialogue. The Dying Exile cannot be saved. Hungry Corpse is guaranteed to drop a class-dependant gem. For the list, see Hungry Corpse#Guaranteed gem drop.

Dialogue

Unlike most NPCs, Dying Exile does not have titles for their dialogue, the appropriate screen where they can be viewed is never accessible.

While the character has no equipped weapon

You and I, we're the only ones that made it to shore... Alive, anyway.

Once I catch my breath here we'll take a look around. See what Wraeclast has on offer. Thought I saw smoke at those ruins up the beach. Could be worth checking if there's-

Dying Exile is interrupted by Hungry Corpse before finishing this dialogue.

Trivia

The Dying Exile's voice was originally provided by Simon Crook. In Version 3.0.0, their dialogue was re-recorded by Damien Caine (also voices the Marauder/Brutus).
