Trigger gem: Cast when Damage Taken supports spells. Multiple different spells can be supported, and each will have their own damage taken counter and cooldown. Multiple copies of Cast when Damage Taken will also function independently, as long as they don't support copies of the same active skill, which would cause a shared cooldown.

Trigger gem: Like all trigger gems, Cast when Damage Taken only triggers and casts spells. Attack gems such as Double Strike are not considered spells. Multiple spells can be linked to a single trigger gem, and will all be triggered if so. Multiple copies of Cast when Damage Taken will also function independently.

Damage counter and trigger cooldown: Cast when Damage Taken adds an internal damage counter that tracks the total accumulated damage taken from hits. Damage over time and life/energy shield costs/sacrifices do not contribute to this counter. (e.g. you cannot use Righteous Fire to trigger Cast when Damage Taken). All damage counters will be reset to 0 upon entering a new area. When the linked spell is triggered, it adds a unique cooldown to the spell for 250 ms and will not track damage during that time. The Cast when Damage Taken gem itself does not have its own counter or cooldown.
Skill cooldowns: Because skills can only have one cooldown, Cast when Damage Taken does not add its 0.25s cooldown to skills that already have a cooldown that's equal or higher.

Multiple copies of the same gem share global cooldowns, meaning that if two copies of the same spell have their trigger conditions met within 250 ms of each other, the first will trigger and the second will fail to trigger as it is on global cooldown.
Maximum level of supported skills: Cast when Damage Taken cannot support skills with a higher level requirement than that of Cast when Damage Taken itself. This restriction only applies to skill gems; support gems are not affected.

Skill cooldowns: Skill-specific cooldowns (e.g. Hexblast) are independent of the cooldown granted by Cast when Damage Taken and do not interact. Both the trigger and the skill must be off cooldown to proc the skill.
Trigger order: If multiple triggers proc simultaneously, skills triggered follow a set order.

Maximum level of supported skills: Cast when Damage Taken cannot support skills with a higher level requirement than that of Cast when Damage Taken itself. This restriction only applies to skill gems; support gems are not affected by this restriction.
Targeting: Triggered spells will target the location of the entity that dealt the hit that caused the trigger. Reflected damage is considered to come from the enemy which the damage was reflected from. If triggered by self-damage, it will target a random enemy, or if there are no enemies, it will target the player's location or a random direction, depending on the triggered skill.

Trigger order: If multiple triggers proc simultaneously, skills triggered follow a set priority. First, skill gems in socket 1 of any piece of gear will apply before any skill gems in socket 2. Items with less than 6 sockets still follow this pattern from socket 1.

(5)⇒(6)
</pre>

Then, if multiple triggered skills are in socket 1, the following priority is used:

:Main hand ⇒ Amulet ⇒ Helm ⇒ Off hand ⇒ Body armour ⇒ Gloves ⇒ Boots

Therefore, the trigger order will follow:

:Main hand (1) ⇒ Amulet (1) ⇒ ... ⇒ Boots (1) ⇒ Main hand (2) ⇒ Amulet (2) ⇒ ...

For skills that are dependent on another skill (e.g. Summon Skeletons and Dark Pact), it is advised to place the dependent skill in a later socket to ensure smooth functioning.

Damage effectiveness: Each gem level lessens the damage penalty but increases the damage threshold to trigger. The actual damage effectiveness of the support gem decreases as CwDT levels up. However, as spells scale significantly with gem levels, a higher-level CwDT setup will do more DPS on average than a lower-level CwDT.

Targeting: Triggered spells will cast at the location of or in the direction of the source of damage that hit the damage threshold. Reflected damage is considered to come from the enemy which the damage was reflected from. If triggered by self-damage, it will target a random enemy (or if there are no enemies, it will be cast at the player's location; if the triggered skill is a projectile, it will be fired in a random direction).

Cast when Damage Taken is a support gem. It causes a linked spell to trigger when the player takes a certain amount of damage from hits.

Skill functions and interactions

Trigger gem: Cast when Damage Taken supports spells. Multiple different spells can be supported, and each will have their own damage taken counter and cooldown. Multiple copies of Cast when Damage Taken will also function independently, as long as they don't support copies of the same active skill, which would cause a shared cooldown.

Damage counter and trigger cooldown: The Cast when Damage Taken gem itself does not have a counter or cooldown, only spells it supports do.[1] Each supported skill has an internal damage counter that tracks the total accumulated damage taken from hits. Damage over time and non-damage loss do not contribute to this counter, i.e. you cannot use Module Error: No results found for item using search term "item_name = Righteous Fire" to trigger Cast when Damage Taken.[2] All damage counters will be reset to 0 upon entering a new area. A skill does not track damage taken while it is on cooldown. If the damage threshold is met but the skill cannot trigger (e.g. due to insufficient mana), the damage counter resets.

Skill cooldowns: Because skills can only have one cooldown, Cast when Damage Taken does not add its 0.25s cooldown to skills that already have a cooldown that's equal or higher.

Maximum level of supported skills: Cast when Damage Taken cannot support skills with a higher level requirement than that of Cast when Damage Taken itself. This restriction only applies to skill gems; support gems are not affected.

Trigger order: If multiple triggers proc simultaneously, skills triggered follow a set order.

Targeting: Triggered spells will target the location of the entity that dealt the hit that caused the trigger. Reflected damage is considered to come from the enemy which the damage was reflected from. If triggered by self-damage, it will target a random enemy, or if there are no enemies, it will target the player's location or a random direction, depending on the triggered skill.[3][4]

Cats when Damage Taken

Cats spawned by Cats when Damage Taken

Cats when Damage Taken was a trigger gem available only on April 1, 2015 as an April Fool's joke.[5] Like Cast when Damage Taken, it caused a linked spell to activate when the player accumulated damage taken, but besides casting the spell, it also summoned black cats. Other properties were identical to the Cast when Damage Taken skill.
