Snipe is a skill gem that supports linked bow skills. It is a channelling bow attack that gains stages while channelling. When released, it triggers a linked non-channelling bow skill for each stage stored and deals more damage per stage. If Snipe is not linked to any applicable skills, it instead fires its own arrow.

Skill functions and interactions

The gem has two functions:
As Snipe:

  • Channel to charge up your bow, gaining stages. Release to trigger one supported bow skill for each stage gained. If there are no supported skills, but at least one stage was gained, this skill will fire its own arrow instead. Cannot be used by Totems.
    • Maximum 6 Stages
    • This Skill's Arrows deal (70–108)% more Damage with Hits per Stage
    • This Skill's Arrows deal (50–80)% more Damage with Ailments per Stage

The lines referring to "This Skill's Arrows" are only relevant if no compatible bow skills are linked to Snipe, causing it to use default arrows instead.

As Snipe Support:

  • Supports bow attack skills. Cannot support channelled skills, instant skills, Vaal skills, or skills used by totems, traps, or mines.
    • (50–80)% more Damage with Ailments per Snipe Stage
    • Supported Skills deal 40% less Damage
    • Supported Skills deal (70–108)% more Damage with Hits per Snipe Stage

Supported skills also have a 50% cost/reservation multiplier and a cooldown time of 0.05 seconds (50 ms).

Mechanics

  • Higher attack speed reduces the time it takes for Snipe to reach maximum stages.

  • Minions summoned by skills supported by Snipe cannot benefit from stage modifiers, but are affected by the 40% less damage modifier.[1]

Mana manipulation

By reserving a large portion of mana and having insufficient mana regeneration to channel past the first stage, it is possible to make Snipe repeatedly fire after the first stage, providing a massive bonus to attack speed.[2]

  • The first stage of Snipe has a hidden interaction that causes it to take half the time to channel compared to subsequent stages, providing an effective 360% modifier of base attack speed if channelling stops at the first stage.[3]
  • Snipe has a cooldown of 0.05 seconds, rounded up to the nearest server tick, providing a cooldown of 0.066 seconds. This results in a default maximum of 15.15 triggers per second.
  • At the next cooldown threshold breakpoint (52% increased cooldown recovery rate), the maximum trigger rate is 30.3 per second.
