A Metamorph is a monster crafted by combining five monster organ samples. The abilities and 3D models constantly change, and depend on the monsters the organs belonged to. For example, using organ from Tyrant (Colonnade MapColonnade MapMap Level: 71

) would allow the Metamorph use the 3d model of Tyrant in one of its forms.

Alternatively, a Metamorph could appear randomly in a map while the Escaped Experiment passive was allocated. These Metamorphs are also known as Rogue Metamorphs and are comprised of a random selection of enemies and/or bosses found in that map. Their rewards are randomized.

Mechanics

Organs from map bosses that are Possessed with a Tormented Spirit's Grip from map modifiers appeared to apply an increased item quantity bonus to dropped rewards.[1] Map bosses who became possessed by a roaming Tormented Spirit did not gain this bonus.

When assembling a Metamorph, the meter at the side indicates #% more Damage, #% more Maximum Life, and #% chance for Double Rewards the Metamorph gains based on the organs used to construct it. Metamorph organs that are higher rarity and item level contributed more towards the meter on the Metamorph menu.

Drops

Lua error: not enough memory.

Itemized organs only drop from Metamorphs in maps when the meter is full and it contains at least one Unique enemy's organ.

The four Unique Items exclusive to Metamorphs can only be obtained from Metamorphs assembled in Tane's Laboratory.[2]

Other rewards vary based on the description on the organs used. For example, if the organs state a reward as "Unique Item", using that organ to craft the Metamorph would add generic unique item to the dropped loot when the Metamorph has slain.

Related items

There were 4 tiers of Metamorph Scarabs that would cause Metamorph organs to be obtainable in the map. Higher-tier scarabs increased the numbers of organs dropped, duplicated Catalysts, or caused all organs to grant rewards.

After the removal of Metamorph mechanic from the game, these were converted to Ultimatum Scarabs.

Version history

Version Changes
3.23.0
  • Metamorph has been removed from the core game.
  • Metamorph rewards from Heist, Expedition, Betrayal, Delirium, Legion and Eldritch Altars have been replaced with Ultimatum rewards.
  • Itemised Metamorph Samples will be deleted upon logging in.
  • The following Metamorph Uniques have been added to the core drop pool: Astral Projector, Fury Valve, Mother's Embrace, and Warrior's Legacy.
  • The Sextant modifiers that cause an area to contain Metamorph Monsters or cause Catalysts dropped by Metamorphs in your Maps to be Duplicated can no longer roll. Existing Voidstones or Charged Compasses with these modifiers have had this replaced with a modifier that causes your Maps to contain Ultimatum Encounter.
  • The Atlas tree passives that previously affected Metamorph encounters have been replaced by ones that affect Ultimatum Encounters.
3.20.1
  • Significantly increased the experience gained from killing Metamorph Monsters.
3.20.0
  • We want to improve on the concept that the Atlas Tree allows players to invest into leagues that they enjoy, and have added new clusters to the passive tree for league content that can be blocked through Atlas Passive Skills. We've also increased the chances for such league content to appear.
3.19.0
  • Assembled Metamorphs no longer summon minions at various life thresholds.
3.14.0
3.11.0
  • Fixed several Metamorph skills that were using the wrong visual effects.
3.10.0
  • Metamorph, and Tane, can now be found once you reach maps. Each map has a 10% chance to be populated with monsters who can drop Metamorph parts.
  • The "maximum power" effect on the bar to the right of the Metamorph panel no longer plays if it is impossible for the fight to drop an itemised organ.
3.9.2
  • Fixed a bug which caused Metamorph bosses to become unfreezable. They can once again be frozen, however they have a higher ailment threshold relative to map bosses with similar amounts of Life.
  • Adjusted a number of Metamorph skills, including the Reliquarian's Firestorm, the Shavronne & Brutus Hover Slam, Tentacle Miscreation projectile skills, the tracking Mortar skills (including those used by Oriath zombies and Kitava's Heralds), Burning and Caustic Ground-creating skills and several others. In general, these will now either deal less damage or be easier to avoid.
3.9.0
  • Introduced to the game.
