Headhunter is a unique Leather BeltLeather BeltRequires Level 8+(25-40) to maximum Life, released in the Nemesis league. If players can consistently kill rare enemies, the Headhunter and Module Error: No results found for item using search term "item_name = Mageblood" are the best-in-slot belts for clearing Maps, Heists, Grand Heists, Blighted maps, Harbinger encounters and Delirium encounters. Other belts might be more suitable for bossing. Due to its powerful effects and low drop rate[1][2], the Headhunter and Mageblood are some of the most expensive items in each league, traded amongst players for many dozens of Exalted OrbsExalted OrbStack Size: 20Augments a rare item with a new random modifierRight click this item then left click a rare item to apply it. Rare items can have up to six random modifiers.. It is also commonly used as a status symbol.

There is no item in the game that provides the same effects, however the Module Error: No results found for item using search term "item_name = Inspired Learning" jewel provides a less powerful version of the Headhunter effect, with its ability to steal one mod from slain enemies as opposed to stealing all mods.

Mechanics

Upon killing a rare monster, the player gains all of its monster modifiers for the next 60 seconds. You also gain the mods if a Minion, Trap, Mine or Totem kills a rare monster; this is an exception to the usual definition of "you".

The following mods can not be gained by the player:

  • FracturedFractured
    Nemesis
  • Inner TreasureInner Treasure
    Nemesis
Monster drops 1 additional Unique Item (Hidden)
  • Soul ConduitSoul Conduit

    Can not be dominated (Hidden)

Effects

An example showing the active mods stolen from slain enemies. Displayed mods: Frenzy Charges, Power Charges, Headhunter Buff, "Accuracy and Crits" Aura, Endurance Charges, "Energy Shield" Aura, "Medium Physical Damage" Aura, Tailwind, Inspiration Charges

Common mods that players can gain from killing rare enemies are listed in the table below. It is possible to gain all of these mods at once, if players can consistently kill rare enemies, therefore, it is possible to activate extreme defensiveness and huge damage boosts. Players will commonly gain mods that grant them a proximity shield, mods that multiply player's energy shield upto 10 times, and mods that grant improve damage and critical strike chance.

While the Headhunter has stolen mods from a slain enemy, it will display the activated mods next to the player's auras. The monster modifiers that Headhunter has stolen sometimes use alternate names, eg "Life Regen Aura" for the Module Error: No results found for item using search term "item_name = Vitality" aura, and so on. The table below uses the name displayed on the buff bar.

Note: It is not possible to gain any "negative" mods from enemies such as curses or hexes. Mods gained will always have a positive effect either to improve the player's defense or offensive capability.

Version history

Version Changes
3.18.0e
  • The Module Error: No results found for item using search term "item_name = Headhunter" Unique Belt now has "When you Kill a Rare Monster, you gain its Modifiers for 60 seconds" (previously 20 seconds).
    • The above changes affect existing versions
  • We have done a lot of work on reducing the memory usage of rare monster modifiers so that a greater variety can be present in each area. This means that the number of different mods that Headhunter items can steal is a lot higher than before.
3.18.0
  • Archnemesis modifiers have been rebalanced and added to the core game. Existing Magic and Rare monster modifiers have been replaced with Archnemesis modifiers.
  • Bloodlines and Nemesis have been removed from the core game. Some of their modifiers have been incorporated into the new monster modifier system (Read version 3.18.0 § Bloodlines and Nemesis Removal for details)
  • Archnemesis modifiers are able to be gained by characters through sources such as Headhunter and Module Error: No results found for item using search term "item_name = Inspired Learning", though you are only able to have one instance of each modifier at any given time.
3.14.0
  • Many unique items that were league-specific have now also been added to the core drop pool.
  • (In content reveal video) No longer a Nemesis league-specific item. Now added to the core loot drop table.[3]
3.7.0
  • Decreased the droprate of Headhunter
2.3.1
  • Fixed a bug where Module Error: No results found for item using search term "item_name = Inspired Learning" and Module Error: No results found for item using search term "page = Headhunter" did not correctly steal mods from Volatile Blood monsters.
1.1.5
  • Fixed a rare crash with the Headhunter unique.
1.0.4
  • Fixed an interaction between the Headhunter unique item and the Proximity Shield Nemesis mod, where the Proximity Shield did not expire.
1.0.2b
  • Fixed an instance crash related to Headhunter interacting with some Nemesis mods.
1.0.0
  • Introduced to the game.
